Pub site finds from the ash 2!

Golden

Member
Hello all, yesterday I went back to the pub site, and after travelling 36km to it, and taking out my detector, where's the pick? I lsft it behind, didn't I! So after searching the car, I found a screw driver & spanner to dig with! Well, I got there just after 100:00am and detected till 3:15pm, and thought, where did the time go? Luckly, the top soil was wet and soft for about 4 to 5 inches down, but after that, the ground was like cement! I managed to find a few coins, one penny was so blackened by fire that I couldn't read the date, As for the rest of the great signal I could hear, but not dig for, left for another day next week!

Hi Angela. Nice finds. Looks like you had some fun hunts. I love finding those old English coins, specially the silver. I went out yesterday morning to a stone ruin but didn't find any coins. Had trouble keeping the Quattro steady as it was blowing a gale. Did find a buckle with a crown and V R underneath. Regards Ken.

....oops...I didn't mean to laugh...but that sounds like what I would do (forget the digging tool)...at least you got some oldies....this will just give you something to look forward to next time!...Right!....

Not bad for not even having your pick with you.:(Golden, you know I'm ribbing you. That's truly some great, old stuff. I'd be panting to find stuff like that. Keep it up, especially when you go back there with your pick!:rofl:You know I love you, Golden!:|Let us know how it all works out. Marc.

I love the pictures Ken. The stone ruins are similar to those I come across over here. You know, I've found coins away from ruins like that, where people of long ago seem to drop coins walking around on the grass. You might find more relics detecting away fromthe ruins. Well, I got out yesterday and this time remembered the pick!!! I'm not going through that again! So, found myself two extra silver coins, but of all things, I hit the sixpence with my pick! Pity. Don't ususally do that sort of thing. But I misgauged where it was. Anyway, found what looks like part of a cricket belt buckle, the centre is missing, I might be wrong though. And a heap of buttons! I wonder if some old timer, all those years ago, got into a fight, had the sirt torn off his torso and lost his buttons! You never know. Going back there next week. This weekend hitting the beach for two days water detecting. Catch ya later. thanks for looking.

Hi Golden. Love those English silver. I agree with finding coins away from the ruins. I ended up with 36 coins from the toll house site, most of which were found well away from the house, just out in the paddock in the middle of nowhere. I went back there the other day for a couple of hours just to go over some of the ground and picked up an 1816 shilling. I suppose people were coming and going and getting on and off horses and wagons. Lotsa luck at the beach..Ken.:detecting:

Good stuff, there Golden. Wow!! I love the old coins. They're R E A L Y, old. Now would you "dare" try and clean them at all, or would that ruin the value of them? Just curious, but they don't look too worn, just got some crud on them. Great stuff. Marc.
