Pull Tabs:rant:

I went on a 4 hour hunt today at a park that I had never been to. I had high hopes for this outing but I ended up spending the day digging one pull tab after another. Boy do these numbers vary. Every one that I pulled had different numbers but all sounded like good targets. I ended up digging nothing but pull tabs today. We all have those days but I am on a dry spell lately. I had a good day diving with my excal on Sat, but I have had a complete land-hunting dry spell for weeks now. HH -Marc

IMHO its a numbers game....keep digging them if u want gold rings $$$ :bouncy:
I try to dig at least 10 low range targets each hunt and sometimes it pays off... sometimes not
happy swinging

Hi T59, I have been playing with the idea of disc'ing out pull tabs and giving that a try. To be honest, any gold that I have ever run over my coil has not fallen in the pull tab range. I know there is some gold that will, and I would be giving those up, but TBH, there isnt enough gold in my area to where I think I would be giving up "a lot" by disc'ing out this area. i know its risky, but I really wonder exactly how much I would miss. Another problem I have been having is that the older parks I've been hunting have had tons (and I mean tons) of older pull tabs that vary so greatly in numbers that its impossible to even think of disc'ing out the range because my entire 12-line would be black. I think ill try blacking out new pull tabs, as they generally seem to fall in the same range, but I know the best thing to do would be to dig them all and hope one of them isn't what I expect it to be. Thanks for your response. HH -Marc

i look at it like this if you are going to go back to the site it is better perhaps to get rid of them as generally they arent too deep and then you can get stuck in to listerning for those real targets that are sitting LURKING GOOD LUCK

I agree with some of the comments above......pull tabs for me generally, most of the time, come in at 12-19/12-15 or they bounce around a great deal. I dig most everything to make sure and these are the results. Gold however, as said....always locks on and is along ways from the pull tab numbers but I can see that it is possible for gold to come in at those numbers as well. If it locks on.....I tend to check it...if it doesnt....I tend to let it go as after hundreds/thousands of digs...it doesnt pay off. One exeption is nickels that are about 14-13 and bounce a small amount.

I know everyone hates pulltabs and I do too, but if there were no pulltabs then everyone would be finding gold rings and jewelry. It is difficult and frustrating and I used to ignore obvious pulltab numbers until I dug a tiny sterling silver earring reading 12-10 and then a big man's platinum wedding ring that read 12-15 within 10 minutes of each other on a soccer field and outfield of a baseball diamond. It's like digging pennies and getting rewarded with a silver ring every once in a while. To me it's worth the aggravation. Good luck!

Thank you all for your replies. I guess I will stick to digging pull tabs, for now at least. I do wonder how so many pull tabs end up everywhere. I personally, have never removed a pull tab from a can, just because, and dropped it anywhere. Seems like a strange thing to do and I can't believe how many people apparently do this. I just hope that one of these days, I am proven wrong when I decide to clean up another tab..... HH -Marc

I Hate People (not individuals)
They drop gum on the floor so it gets on the bottom of your shoe
They don't put the shopping cart into the corral and it dings your car
They drop pull tabs everywhere thinking they can litter with impunity

Regards and HH :)

for me it's a state of mind,,,, you think by digging pull tabs your are wasting your time,,, but for me 1-I now collect them 2-I am cleaning the site for future hunts 3- I am clearing bad targets to help unmask what is under them 4-I cannot deal with the "what did I miss" syndrome, I just dig them and be happy 5- the thought of a 1000 pull tabs to get to one good diamond ring is why I dig-em,, find a way to make it worth while to you and HH
