Question about the 250...

How do you get the most depth out of it while at the same time it still being able to figure out whats what? I've noticed that most of the targets I've been finding at the places I hunt are usually around 2 to 4 inches deep. Then again I don't usually measure how deep the targets actually are. What settings should I use to get as deep as possible? Currently I have the settings in jewlrey mode with 4 sensitivity. Am I just thinking about this too much? Maybe somebody dug all the deep targets way before I got there.

Thanx's for your input.

I find that the higher the sensitivity the deeper it will go. You can try this by doing a bench test and see the difference, Also the size coil you are using and ground condition also makes a difference. I always try to use the highest sensitivity. In a new area i always start in all metal mode to see what is common in the ground then discriminate from there,(nails, bottle cap, trash, ect.) Also how old is the place that you are hunting and what is its history, this can make a difference to. Hope some of this helps.:detecting:

Turning the sensitivity up does not effect the ID. I usually run mine at 5 bars but will turn it up to 6 on occasions if it will allow me without falsing. I have found though ,,with the sens turned up,,, if there are several shallow targets, close together. It is more difficult to seperate them, but all you need to do is turn it(sensitivity) down for a minute in order to dig these targets.
If the ground is dry(you didn't say) it causes problems for depth with any detector. But in general, if you are not getting any deep signals,,, its because there is nothing there.(even at 4 bars) Keep swinging they will come.

BTW I'm a coin hunter, the jewelry is a bonus for me. I set the ace in custom mode and everything below nickel is disc-ed out. Sens at 5-6 bars. Look for weak signals that read deep, they may not give a signal from certain directions and from others they are bouncing around, but yet somewhat consistant in this manner.I dig them all,, but if you can get a dime reading from any one direction on these, its a definite "dig". I have found a bunch of wheats this way and a few mercs. Not sure if that made sense, but tring to say ,dime ,penny size coins don't always read well at 5-10 inches. Another thing to look for when doing this , if reading 4-6+ inches on depth and then go into pinpoint and depth reading stays about the same, and is a weaker hmmm(not screaming and kind of hard to place) makes that target a more desirable coin size object.

Good Luck

I set mine at 4-5 bars on the sens. I am a coin hunter and it helps pretty much but I go to coins mode and take off the nickel bar since I dig alot of targets that are made of the same stuff as nickel. I mostly dig pennies (just clad). Oldest coin: 1964 D Penny. But I plan to hunt some old houses today, so I'm hoping for some oldies!:garrett::detecting:

I run one bar below max, sometimes two down. The largest factory coil and I have 12-14 inches of my coil cord taped from the coil up to help eliminate falsing. I have found plenty of old silver coins and way too many coppers. Your depth will increase after a good rain with wet ground. Actually I find my ACE gets too deep too often if that makes sense. I consistently get strong signals on large scrap 8-12 inches down, more so in wet soil than dry. Do not think that the ACE is weak on silver, it is not. Silver has slightly higher conductivity than copper and if you get out and use the ACE enough, you will see that it's a penny finding fiend. When you go over enough silvers, obviously much more rare than pennies, you will realise that the ACE hits as hard or harder on silver. I've had one or two shallow silver quarters ring the ACE so hard that the plastic housing rattled. Yes I've experienced touchy or sporadic signals on deeper silver dimes or pennies, but these are down there a ways. I've also dug a plug up, rescanned and got a heavy signal after a so/so signal. Sometimes it's worth checking the sporadic but fairly consistent tones because the coin is small and deep. I'm not talking about the choppy foil signal, that's another matter, lol. Lordy, a guy can just go on and on. Hey bud, for starters, Jack up the sens, run (jewelry mode, easier) or all metal and dig your butt off. VERY IMPORTANT -----> LEARN WHAT THE SOUNDS TELL YOU.
