Question about the 250

Does a high sensitivity allow the 250 to detect deeper?? Does it depend on the type of soil??? I'm hunting in clay here.

2 bars from being on max sensitivity (which I think is factory preset) I seem to get some chatter when I max it out.

The sensitivity control is just that. The higher you set it, the deeper you will hear a smaller target. As I understand it, the detector always throws out the same field, but as just said, by increasing or decreasing the sensitivity, you will effect the depth at which you will hear certain items. Take a coin and set it at 2 bars. While you will get good depth at the middle of the coil, you will notice a sharp loss of depth as you move away from the middle of the coil, compared to it being at a higher setting.
If the ground is mineralised or has a lot of tiny trash in it, then if you have the sensitivity set to high, you will start to get a lot of false signals (non repeating random signals). Apart from the fact that you will find it both distracting and frustrating, you can easily miss good targets. The best way to figure it out is to experiment with the setting. turn it up a notch at a time and use it for a bit, till you get to a point where it seems to get chattery. Back it of a notch or so, till the false signals settle down. At this point, you have your optimum setting.
The other reason you may want to back off the sensitivity, is when you hunt around metal poles. set at around 3 bars, will allow you to hunt closer to them than if you were set on 6 bars.
Good luck with the Ace.It's a first class detector and can tell you a lot about a target, once you master it.

Mick just gave the BEST advice possible. I was ready to sell mine and actually TRIED to sell it 3 times in a garage sale but no one wanted to pay $175 for my setup and I was too stubborn to take less. Then, I read this forum and started experimenting with the sensitivity settings and the sweep speeds, and LIFTING the coil over targets and NOW there's NO WAY that I would sell it. To go even further, I got the sniper coil a couple of weeks ago and it transformed it into the BEST detector I've EVER owned for the type of hunting I do. I implore you to get the sniper coil as it is totally unbelievable how it transforms the machine into a killer.

The sensitivity two theories some say it just increases the sound of target that the machine only puts out ever thing at factory setting .My theory in filed practice is i get more depth when i turn it up as much as i can on the coil iam using. Also if you use all metal it seems to go deeper no discrimination to me but other say you are hearing more targets i still think its deeper.Best coils sniper 4 inch crank it up and i have hit targets sometimes 5 6 7 inches.Stock good all around coil but like the 9x12 Garrett or 10x14 ex coil. The 9x12 Garrett coil i know will hit hot wheel 11 inches, coins crank it up but not till unstable you should be able to hit coins at 9 inch for sure,The 10x14 get a little more depth more coverage but it needs to be run all metal cranked up and it will get down there now the bigger coils like less trashy areas. The sniper coil i have to say is one of the best 4 inch coils i have used it seems small but once you start to use it it is hard to take off. It seems to pull coins from every where in between trash next to buildings edges of lawn around poles fits in tight areas good .Now the soil yes it makes a difference here is hi minerals mix of clay and dirt but that 250 will give a more expensive machine a run for the money. If i were you first i would put it in all metal crank it up till a little unstable and then bring it down a notch on sensitivity you will hear a lot of items depending were you hunt but you should also here the bell tone on the hi coins and start to check your depth on some of the items don't have to dig them if you don't want but just check depth. If you get a slight bell tone and you walk around target and you seem to get the bell tone slightly on and off from different angels pinpoint area stomp ground with foot like sending small earthquake to the coin it should slightly break it loose and then swing over and you should get a better reading.Another thing if you swing over a coin say bell tone real soft deep coin you dig down but now it gone you swing over now but cant find it sometimes pinpoint wont find it you broke the ground matrix dig about another 4 inches and start looking it should be there.I notice i loose some stuff that way no signal but i know the ace 250 and if it said it was there i herd it for sure then there is something down there.Hope this helped some. Good luck and good hunting

Unless you're in real mild soil ( little to no mineralization plus lack of junk ) lower sensitivity is better, about four bars. Sensitivity is the most misunderstood control on a detector. Cranking it up not only makes the coil more sensitive to the target you hope to find but also more sensitive to any mineralization and every piece of junk that was ever dropped or buried. It is not a DEPTH CONTROL as many seem to think. You can tell when it's too high as your detector will become erratic, unstable, and false a lot, plus it will mask many a good target.

I was reading some reviews that it isn't around salt water, then below that a guy said it's because the sensitivity was too high.
It just shows that people expect to go out and use it as if it were something like a new bike. I haven't bought mine yet but I know that when I use it it may take 50+ hours of hunting before I completely figure it out.
This is a great forum and I am glad I found it because it kinda simplifies the research by having it all in one place. It also helps buy being able to talk to some pros of the hobby.
