Question about the Omega and T2

Jeff in Pa

Well-known member
I hear alot of people talk about the continuous chatter the T2 has, does the Omega also "Chatter" alot?

Thanks!

Not as bad. The Omega is quite a bit quieter but most people seem to be opting to run it at 99 sensitivity which makes it chattery. I've put the 11" DD coil on my Omega and I'm happier with its performance than I was with the T2...better and more stable VDI numbers, and the depth on bullets is better per ID in my red dirt. All metal depth is about the same but it seems more stable to me overall.

The T2 has a racehorse personality. The people who do the best with it are the ones who listen through the noise. You can of course crank it down and still have plenty of sensitivity, but when you've got a racehorse it's hard to discipline yourself to stay out of the fast lane when you don't need it.

The Omega has a bit more relaxed personality. Of course you can crank it up into the noise and search that way if you want to.

Between the two, if you're running in the noise, the Omega usually does a better job of quieting down as you're sweeping over the ground.

I used both units. Currently use the Omega. As a turf coinshooter, the nod goes to the Omega. Dave J's description pretty much sums it up. Is the T2 deep....oh yeah!!! However, I wanted a more 'relaxed' machine for coinshooting. If I were doing relics/prospecting....the T2, hands down. The Omega hits hard on silver. Alot of people claim their brand of detector does too....the Omega really does!!! Way harder than my White's unit. Great on silver dimes.
DanielTN is spot on in his assessment of the Omega. My area, Idaho is fairly mineralized, but not as bad as Daniel's soil. If coinshooting up to a depth of 6" I like to use the stock concentric coil when bottlecaps are prevalent. Anything deeper than 6", out comes the 11" DD. In trashy areas, the 5" DD is the boss. I am still amazed at the depth and separation this little coil gets. Who ever designed it (Dave J ?)....its a awesome piece of work.
I forgot to add, in my soil, I can run sens between 75-90 and machine stays quiet in regards to soil mineralization. I could go higher. I don't see much value in cranking it to 99, as the extra noise can mask deep/faint signals. But hey, thats my preference. Although, the depth increase between 90 & 99 isn't very much. So I don't set to 99. Now if your in a area with alot of EMI, the Omega will chatter, just like the T2. Both machines seem to behave similar in regards to EMI in my experience. And you have to dial the sens down. But even at 60 sens, using the 11" DD, the Omega gets serious depth.

Thanks guys, I have a Vaquero with the stock coil and it is a very nice machine. I am always looking at other detectors and I am sure now that I am getting back into it I will have at least three machines so I am considering all others. I live in coal country, older homes are full of ash clinkers in the yard areas which play havoc sometimes. The Omega looks like it may be my next detector purchase.
