Question for Andy - Submersion of ProCoil?

Mike Gresham

New member
I'm wondering if it's OK to submerge my factory 11" ProCoil in a few inches of fresh water, such as a shallow creek. Over the years I have done this with other coils without any problems. I have learned that some of the best CW relics are in the creeks, because most relic hunters don't like to get wet and muddy. The ProCoil appears to be water-tight, however I would seal the cable plug with silicone. What do you think, Andy?

so you can submerse it in fresh or saltwater. Just be sure to clean out the coil cover once in a while.

If you are planning to use this detector around water..........

DO NOT lift the detector and allow the water to run back to the control housing through the shaft.

This could/will cause real problems.

I think what Mr.DeMarco is saying is a little clearer to me if he substituted 'tilt upward' for "lifting". You lift it all the time but it's the vertical tilt of the coil, holding it higher than the control box, that will cause the water to run down into the control head. That's not intuitive. Unless you've played with a few and peeked inside the average joe like me wouldn't have thought that could be an issue. Regards...Jim
