Questions about the SEF 10X12

It seem to me that many of the succesful hunters own and use the 10x12 coin to the point I can't get my hands on one. what is it that makes them so popular also I've see some of the Ultimate 13 up for sale but I also see other loving them. I already have the X5 because when I called KellyCo last year they didn't have the 6EQ,, 6x8 or the 10x12 in stock and couldn't even give me any Idea of when I could get them. I like the idea of the 6x8 over the X5 even though its an excellent coil only because of more coverage than the X5. I also wonder how many of you use your 10x12 more than the stock pro coil and why. I'm ready to buy the 10x12 or the Ultimate 13 if I can get my hands on one. Which one do you prefer. If I had to I would even try the 6x8 just to get better coverage and depth. Your advise would be appreciated.

Although I don't have the 10x12 I do use a larger coil (12x13) as my primary coil. There are several reasons why I use the larger coil as a default:

1. It goes slightly deeper than the stock coil
2. Covers more ground. I like hunting open ground that has been "hunted out" so the extra coverage and depth nabs me a lot of old coins.
3. The larger coil finds coins on edge that were missed by others. I find silver coins on edge all the time at the 5"-6" range that others have missed.

I also have a 6x8 SEF and love it. Just large enough for some coverage but small enough to really get into the trash and sniff out the goodies.

Thanks RC for answering me. I found out about your coil 12x13 from Bill S, I looked into that one also last year and I'm still considering that one too. I watched the video from Japan on it not to long ago and decided if I can't get the SEF 10x12 then I'll spend the extra money for one of those. I'm surprised no one has said anything about the 10x12 afterall if they didn'nt like them the market would be flooded with em. Did everyone buy one just because of the price differance and the 12x13 doesn't get that much more depth. They do hit harder and louder but I didn't know they are also good for coins on edge. I like that enough to justify the cost. It will more than likely be the way I'll go. G4E likes the 6x8 and Pro coil as do alot of others on the 6x8 so once I get my bigger coil then I am going to get the 6x8 for better coverage, that way the park ranger won't have to hold a mirror under my nose to see if I died using my X5 since I appear not to be moving. I thought you said you live in central Misery, I mean Missouri, if so I live in St Charles just off I 70 maybe we could do a hunt together. I'll take you to a 100 yr. old park thats driving me crazy but it does have Keepers in it.

I am still waiting to try my N.E.L. Tornado 12x13 coil on the E-Trac...I have heard good things about it...I need to get a new washer kit for my lower rod...old ones wore out, and coil wobbles too much.

I can sell you my 10 x 12 if you want. The reason why I am selling it is because I dont have my etrac anymore. It is an awesome coil and I used it most of the time along with the 8 x 6, which has already been sold.

I've used the 10 x 12 SEF coil for several years now and I love, it has good depth and separation. But I must say RC detectors hit the nail on the head, I also use the 12 x 13 and since I've put it on I haven't took it off, it is a killer coil better depth good separation and he's right this coil absolutely nails coins on edge better than any thing I've ever used.

Grew up around Lake Ozark area, Went to school at Lake ozard, Russellvile, and Eldon. Then moved to Springfield for 6 years when I was 25, now I live in Columbia temporarily. I love the Springfield/Branson area so will likely move back there when the wife's done with MU =) SE Missouri is some beautiful country but havn't been down there much. I know Elephant Rock and Johnston Shut in's is some pretty country.

You're the first person I've heard of that's used both coils a lot. Have you noticed any difference in the two as far as depth, separation, stability...? Is the 10x12 lighter or heavier?

I took the 10 x 12 out there and cleaned out all the coins I possibly could and a week later put the 12 x 13 coil on and now it's like hunting in a new place the only problem that I had was finding a good 12 x 13 coil back then, I run into a lot of people that had a lot of trouble with these coils when they first came out (not stable noisy but a friend of mine had one that he swore by and I bought that one, and he was right I've not took it off since so you can't go wrong with either coil but if you want extreme depth I would go with the 12 x 13 that's my two cents worth.
