Queston about the Ace 250 and coil changes....

I've got the 4.5 sniper coil ER for my ace. Does the unit need to be recalibrated for max preformance?? I know from past exp with other machines sometimes the GB or Disc/ID gets out of wack. Still snowed in

Never had the problem or heard of one. It will read the depth a little different due to size. Have never had any problems with Garretts as to having the coils recalibrated.

Bill

Well that's good to know. I know without a GB adjustment sometimes, disc and ID act werid when you change the coils on some units. I'll play around with mine after the smaller coil gets here and see.

Like Uncle Will said. Never heard of any problems. Your 250 is already and continuously running at "maximum performance" ! I have only heard some people talk about Tesoro's needing to be recalibrated. To me this would be a pain in the ash!

I have all three coils for my ACE 250 with lower rods attached to all of them for quick changing. I haven't found any need to change settings when I use different coils. As Uncle Willy said that there is a slight difference on the depth display but not by that much. Happy digging....Get dirty.....

Every once in a while I find my 2500 needs a factory reset after a coil change. At least it seems to improve performance. I generally do a factory reset whenever I change batteries too. Not every time though. With the 250 it would be a lot easier because there really are no settings except sensitivity.

Yep, mine seems to be pretty hot no matter what coil I use. "I have all three".
The only thing I've noticed is a change in depth reading. And that's to be expected
when you think about it. The machine doesn't recalibrate for coil changes.
I've never tried accurately measuring the depth read differences between the various
coils, but as a rule, if you are using the sniper coil, you can divide in half what the
depth reading says. IE: if it says four inches, it's probably closer to two.
With the 9x12 coil, again I haven't really tested it, but I would expect a slight
change from the stock coil. IE: if it reads four inches, it might actually be five
or six. The change should be in proportion to the change in coil size.
But as far as sensitivity, I've never noticed in real issues changing coils.
That will more pertain to the coil being correctly tuned for the frequency rather than size.

In fact, my sniper coil is HOT for it's size. No problem there at all.
And the 9x12 seems fine also. The only thing I notice about the 9x12 coil is
that to get the very most depth performance, you need to run the machine as
hot as you can stand it. There is quite a noticeable difference in total depth
performance between say running half way, vs nearly full blast.
But of course, this will only matter if you are seeking targets that are actually
that deep. Many targets are not that deep, so much less an issue.
I run the sniper full blast most of the time with little falsing.
Heck, I run all my coils as hot as I can stand em..

Yeah with the Sniper you can usually run it hot with no problems as it ain't seeing too much at one time.
