:rage: No matter what you think you know...You can learn from the manual 8)

I have owned several F75 series detectors.. I have read the manual many, many times......... But I guess it was selective reading

From day one I have had deep Older pull tabs ring in high on the F75... Outside of setting disc up to Zinc pennies, and then have the machine average up the full Aluminum Tab and pull ring
into the Silver ranges I have lived with it. Low disc, and digging plenty of Tabs so as to not miss any Good targets... Always getting Silver tone and ID on many of those OLD OLD Tabs...

:rage: After reading the manual again... Straight from the Engineers clearly saying ... AT First Use ......... In the Notch section...
So Listen up all you F75 users....:bouncy:

Reset your detector to factory setting...Machine off........ Hold red menu button in, hold toggle switch forward..........and turn on while holding both in their required positions for this maneuver... Release menu and toggle switch.. While on the discrimination side of operation...............

Press Menu ( RED BUTTON) switch 4 times..... Takes you to notch...... OK so far... Now while in Notch rotate the knob clockwise till you reach the number 40 showing on the screen.....

Press menu ( Red Button) once.. A line will hightlight above TABS.... Now go ahead and change your sens and anything else you want to set up................ Many of the pull tabs I and I bet you have been digging with good tones and Id will no longer bother you while hunting...... In fact Half of the pull tabs and pieces will be gone...

How did I miss this very clear setting from the guys who invented this machine............ I'll tell you.......Like many, Me, and I bet a lot of you too...we didn't read the notch section....

Give it a try.Let me know what you think..It sure made a difference for me.............. Not to mention it's suggested from the designers of the machine...... ( Engineers)

Dang nab it! Now I gotta try and locate my manual. Not that I don't believe you! But, as you know, I have dug a few of those deep suckers myself of late. HH jim tn

We were just discussing this Jim... That is why I was trying to find an answer.. Maybe I found it.. Worked in my Test Garden

:thumbup:Good reminder. I never use notch, but will now give it a shot in the real world. Thanks ole buddy. HH jim tn

Great reminder. I find a fair amount of questions asked in the forums are covered very completely in the detector manuals. With my F75-ltd; the reset to default is one I use to get back to a known starting point rather than stepping through all the settings to see what setting I had for the last hunt that I want to change for this next hunt. For me it is easier to start at the defaults and change those.

Hmmm may have to give this a little play time. Don't usually notch anything. Most of the time sense 87, disc 15-20 ( for the higher gain depth, site dependant ) 3tone in De. This is what I have neen ising most of the time while still learning the 75.

I'm still digging some 7" full round tabs and the pull part that opens the can........ This may have more to do with Disc not going down to the depth of these items.

Their the full Aluminum type..shiny no rust at all ,and they ring in high tone, with a 70 to around 74 ID....... varies with the tab......

Glad to hear I'm not the only one thats getting them, been digging them since I got the F75, and don't understand way , I can blow them away with my other machine?

I notice i get more of them in BP then DE, maybe the extra gain in BP won't knock them out, I'll have to give that a check.

Yeah, if you read the manual first this feature is no secret.
Man, the manual is not very long either.
If you miss the pull tabs you may miss the gold ring.

Rings are not as plentiful in all areas as some would like you to believe.

If your in an area where your digging 25 to 50 pull tabs within the first hour..............more than likely "Rings" are not going to be everywhere..so you may as well save yourself some digging and use notch. Your still getting the Nickle area rings and that will be the majority.

Discrimination is a tool............. Either you use it, or you do not. Notch allows you to take out pesky multiple items, yet still pretty much get a lot ( NOT ALL) of the better targets.......

That said. If you can dig all, you can and will find more items..........If your a coin shooter, notch and discrimination is a wonderful tool.

I am unconfortable notching out pull tabs. This is where some gold will read so you will be essentially notching out some gold items. Yeah, I know, you have to dig a thousand tabs in the hopes of finding even one gold item. I don't dig all the tabs unless the VDI and tones have certain characterists to them, then I dig. I guess this is what they mean when they say it takes a lot of time to learn your detector and its language. I usually bring a gold ring with me to see what it sounds like in this or that particular area. Unfortunately, no detector yet built that I know of can zero in on gold items. I've read some people's reviews on this or that detector who claim they've learned their detector so well that they "know" if it's a pull tab or a gold ring 100 percent of the time. I tried selling them some wonderful swamp land in Florida, haven't heard back from them yet.

You are right every time I go back and read the manual I find something that just didn't stick the first 25 or 30 reads. When I ordered my F75Ltd it was when they first came out and it was a pre-order, so I downloaded the manual and every night I would read through the it before bed. Like you said after a month or so I was skim reading just the parts that interested me.

Really good advise to go back and read it from time to time.

Ramer,
Agree 100 percent. NO MACHINE is going to eliminate junk if you don't want to miss potentially good targets. Just wait, gonna see some big fish stories after people pay 2500.00 for this new Minelab. Gotta justify the money they spent, just like they did on the ETRAC.
