Rare 1858 flying eagle penny, braided hair large cent

Today I took the 1800s map I found through extensive research and found another 3 homesites, 2 were smaller size cellar holes but the last one I discovered was the remnants of an enormous mansion. It was beautiful though nothing was still standing. You could see the round base for the tower like front and the massive cellar hole that was nearly 80ft long. The first target I dug was a silver chain used to keep a cape or cloak attached to the wearer. I was starting to get excited... Second target, rand in as a mid tone figured probably old shotgun shell, but no, it was a coin! I gently brushed off the back and saw the familiar wreath- an Indian head. I flipped it over to get a date, but as I brushed the dirt off the familiar Indian face did not appear. It was a bird. And I coin I have never seen let alone heard of. It was an 1858 flying eagle penny! Very rare, minted from 1857-1858. And I had one in my hand! Third target was an ornate crotal bell, then- another coin and a first for me again! A 1846 braided hair Liberty large cent! I can't wait to go back and continue to hunt these places out. I will be posting a video soon as well

Congratulations on not only the finds but the detective work to find those sites.

I found and 1858 Flying Eagle once. It had been used as a washer or something. I find something good and its worthless, except to me. Congrats on a couple of sweet finds!!

Great detective work love the coins.if i was a betting man id say you would be back there sooner than later.

Thanks guys! It's was a crazy day. Never had one like it. But now I have multiple homesites that are producing old coins and relics so I'll have more to keep me busy than I'll have time for. Not a bad problem to have. Research pays, digging wheats out of schoolyards was getting old and this def injected some excitement and adventure into the hobby again.

Here's a link to the video! Hope you find it interesting! http://youtu.be/mOBa0Oq1vc8

Wow, I know you freaked out. Keep going over those areas and get more. No telling what is there. HH-Mark

Congrats on the GREAT finds ! :beers:

Seems like the guy's that make great finds on a regular basis put a lot of time in site research.
Research is boring to a lot of people ( not me - I love it ) but it can really pay off !

Great Finds, good research. Good research greatly increases the success.
thanks for sharing.
Beautiful eagle flying

Thanks everyone. There's nothing like digging these rare finds! I hope to have more to share soon! Thanks for the support and I'm so happy to have such a supportive group of people in a great hobby! Though I don't consider it a hobby it's more of a lifestyle as the research consumes me!

Totally awesome work! I've only personally known one other hobbyist that found a Flying Eagle Cent in 20 years in this wonderful hobby!
