Rare silver-filled day at the park... :bouncy:

We are going through a very wet season... snow, rain, floods, cold....... Time for detecting is slim. A week ago the temps climbed into the low 60's and after a day of strong wind drying off the grass, I knew where to head for... the local ghetto park. Stopped there after work for an hour and a half, and started in a spot that was the site of a large 19th century fair building, that was turned into a giant swimming pool, and later redone into a smaller swimming pool that is there today. Hunting around the edges of this spot in the past has yielded pockets of silver and older coins from the 1800's. My intention was to get lucky and hit an old seated coin....

I started off right away digging DEEP wheaties from the 40's about 9-10 " down. Pretty soon, the silver followed. Everything was 8" or deeper, and a lot of the signals were pretty steady, even with the presence of iron and mineralization. I didn't find any oldies, but a lot of shiny coins can't be beat!

The pic shows the loot for the evening... also located a couple of tokens from the older pool: "Second Towel" "Private Suit". The second towel I get, but what's up with the private suit? Did they have a community suit for everyone to share?

My kid was pestering me to take his picture while I was trying to get the photo of my finds, so you get a bonus pic!

Update on Forest Park: I never heard back from the head park ranger, who I have left several messages for, So I will talk to the park superintendant. It's not the rangers I'm concerned with, it's the mis-informed park employees I need to worry about: I need a name of their boss to throw in their face if they bug me again. With my luck, I'm sure I'll run into another tree-hugger who will call the bad boys on me again for murdering their grass. America, Land of the free??? Lookin less and less like it with each passing day anymore. :sadwalk: Take care and HH, Mike.

Wow that silver is deep for the age. I think the seated is there, just much deeper. Wait for some construction to be happening and it may surface. How deep was the kid?

if I can drop the lady and her boy off at the zoo and detect for a few hours. If so...I'd like to hook up with you for a while and get some hunt time in with you. I guess we could always hit some of the other parks...but Forest Park is a neat place...and the zoo makes it a good day for the family and keeps them from getting bored while I hunt. I got the club newsletter and I'm glad you made everyone aware of the situation. Should we still stay out of there...or how is that situation going?

Some nice finds Mike..............and is that a young Kid Rock?

At this point, I can't say. Until I get some official word, I wouldn't suggest going out there. I'm sure there other people out there detecting, but I don't know if they're being run out as well. I should find out son, though.

Good to see you finding your share of Silver. And them Tokens are great finds in themselves. I have always like finding Tokens since it gives you a piece of History from your area. Hope everything works out for the best for you at Forest Park. It's a shame to have great hunting spots and then get kicked off of them due to uninformed people of just what we Detectorists are trying to do, and that is save some of the History for future generations to be able to see rather than it being lost forever and never seen again. Good Luck and HH Mike.
