Re: How many of you fellers' use the 5" coil in spots?...and how many feel....

JC,

I have the 5" SunRay coil for my Explorer and I cannot say enough good stuff about it. That coil gives incredible separation and depth. I was crankin out the silver in the trash that others passed by for years. As far as depth, pullin out wheats and mercs easily at 8" It is my most used coil.

My honest opinion is that since you have the pro coil on your E-Trac...and it separates so well...I think I would opt for the Sunray X-5. The X-8 is a superb coil...but again the pro coil separates very well in moderate trash. If you have some sites that are super dense with trash I would try the smaller X-5 to see if you can sniff out something the pro coil missed.

All this being said...I still find a place in my arsenal for the x-8.It is an awesome coil in moderate trash and goes plenty deep. Ther X-5 is the coil I use for the most extreme trash.

One more thing...don't overlook the 6" Excelerator. For the very sweet price it sells for...it just might be the "best buy" of any of the small coils. I can't even count all the deep silver and injuns' I found with this coil on my SE...and from depths of 9". It gave me the best combo of depth/target separation of all the small coils.

The X-5 was my choice for the densest trash though and still got good depth. It is a "super sniper"

I appreciate the offer to try the 5" CZ coil. I'll let you know how my buddy likes his..and we'll go from there.

I am going to make a trip to one of the dealers I know in a month and check out the Sunray coils first hand. I am still so new to the E-trac that I can honestly say I have not taken the 11 inch pro coil to a semi trashy site to see how it does, so it may surprise me and I won't think about the 8 inch coil and just go for one of the small coils instead.

Using the 8 inch coil almost exclusively on my CZ's makes me a sucker for that size coil....hence me still thinking of the Sunray 8 !!! It's like the Goldilocks baby bear coil...not to big, not too small...just right ! HA !

I was also a die hard cz guy until I got my hands on an E-trac. To be honest with you I probally would not have tried one if it wasn't for the 4-tone option That was one of the reasons I never liked the Explorers before was to many tones for my ears. I was so used to 3 and 4 tones from my czs. I always thought Fisher got it rite using the 8'' as there stock coil. That is one of the reasons I love the sunray x-8 on my E-trac. That and the fact it is a lot lighter than the pro coil and almost as deep! I use the x-8 coil about 80% of the time.

I have all 4 coils you mentioned and I use my pro coil about 90% of the time (even in heavy trash). Next in line is my Sunray 8" coil (this is a killer coil). Sunray's 5" coil is a good one but it gathers dust since I picked up the 6" excelerator coil (this coil amazes me but only comes out when I'm getting desperate to find an oldie so I don't get skunked :detecting: . Really feel too many people don't have the patients to stick with and learn what the pro coil can do in heavy trash (I might have a slight advantage with my pro coil because mine is on the E-trac)?
