RE-POSTING: Continuing the snake subject......

I tried posting this last night but couldn't get it to go through on my end. Finally, it would show up and then would disappear. Not sure what the problem is/was, so I'm just gonna re-post it here as a new subject instead of part of the thread. Sorry!!! If you read it before, I guess you can skip it here.

First of all, Ma, you were saying you couldn't watch snake shows on TV; I am actually fascinated by snake shows. I enjoy watching them on TV, but not when there's no protective barrier between them and me! I even like to look at them through the glass at aquariums, the zoo or other exhibits. But I still HATE them and will not touch them. I don't even like to touch pictures of them.

I don't know if I've ever told it here on the forum or not, but my daughter, Julie, has been bitten by a copperhead and a rattle snake. The copperhead bit her through her tennis shoe and only one fang deposited a little bit of venom just under the skin, on the side of her foot. It only went underneath the skin (kind of like how you can slide a straight pin under your skin without making yourself bleed). Since it didn't penetrate down into the meat of her foot, the venom didn't get into her bloodstream so she didn't have to have any anti-venom. The side of her foot did swell a good bit and turned a dark pinkish/purplish color. The skin finally peeled off in that area. She has a shiny light pink scar there now. That happened when she was in the 11th grade (She is 21 now).

When the rattle snake bit her it was on her arm, but it delivered a "dry bite" and didn't deposit enough venom to get into her bloodstream. Again, she didn't have to have anti-venom. I don't have a picture of her foot from when the copperhead bit her, but I do have a picture of the rattle snake bite. Even though it was considered a "dry bite" it still caused a nasty looking place on her arm that was there for over a month, and her arm did swell a lot and turned ugly colors and was all splotchy. She has a scar there now, but it isn't all that noticeable, especially if you aren't looking for it, are already know it's there. That happened summer before last. I'll attach the pictures of that bite area. The pictures were taken with one of her friend's cell phone and is horrible quality, but you can still see how much it swelled and how it was all splotchy and nasty looking.

This first picture was taken a few hours after she was bitten. I drew circles around the fang marks but it was already swollen enough that you might not be able to really see them in the pic.

This second picture was taken about two weeks later. It's still very swollen and has a blister looking place on it.

She's like her momma... gotta be out there doing something. The copperhead bit her while riding her 4 wheeler (long story), and the rattle snake bit her while cutting grass for an elderly lady just up the road. She was using her arm to push back limbs on some bushes as she mowed around them, and the snake was in the bush. She saw it strike out of the bush but couldn't get stopped or turned away from it before it struck again and popped her on the arm.

I use to not mind snakes as much as I do these days. When I was a kid, I played with a family of black snakes that lived in a sand pile in our yard. However, it seems the older I get the worse I hate them.

We only have one snake in MI that is poisenous. That is one too many. Be careful out there in the woods.

For as long as I can remember, I've been walking through the woods, swamps, and wild places and I can honestly say I've never seen a snake in the wild, with the exception of on or near the sand dunes of Lake Michigan near the city of Muskegon. When we were kids, we used to caddy for two bucks for eighteen holes at the Ponteluna Golf Course. It was on and or near the golf course that Blue Racers could be spotted now and then. They could also be spotted near Black Lake, which is on Ponteluna Road near the Water Park down the road. I've heard, over the years, that there are Rattle Snakes in Michigan but, in all my experience, I've not ever seen one anywhere in the state. On the other hand, I have seen numerous poisonous spiders throughout the state, including Black Widows. I HATE SPIDERS & BUGS! Snakes I can live with. Well ... NOT WITH ... but you get my drift.

Sorry, Lisa, to hear about your daugters snake bites! The poison venom of both snakes and spiders can be very bad and cause awful swelling and illness! The Brown Recluse is one that really causes trouble if bitten by it and also the Black Widow!

I've heard that Blue Racer snakes will chase you if you run from them, but if you turn and run at them, then they will turn and run away! I don't know, as I don't think I have ever encountered one to see if that is true!

My dad liked snakes and I didn't like him when growing up, so that may be one reason I dislike snakes, but another reason is that Lucifer's spirit entered into the serpent in the garden and by lying and twisting God's Word caused Adam and Eve to sin and now the whole world is corrupted with sin, except those who are truly Christian believers in Lord Jesus Christ!

I really don't care for anything that is slithery and sneaky, including humans who lie and are snakes in the grass! I know they are creatures, too, but I still don't care for them ....but will tolerate the ones that kill and keep the poison ones away!

I praise God and thank, Jesus, for keeping me protected from both the snakes and evil humans! I was and am protected from the evils of the world by praying and obeying, Jesus, Who is my Lord and Savior! The Master of my soul....Amen!

May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

We got snakes down here in south GA. also.......A guy told me once that there was only two kinds of snakes he was afraid of...........a liven and a deaden.....haha.....God Bless.......Dan

WHAT??????????? OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would have demanded that sand be hauled away and the snakes killed! Can't imagine playing with them!!!

Lisa

Spiders, Couple of nasty ones here. Wolf spiders and Black Widows and have heard that Brown Recluse are occasionaly spotted. I'll take the Snakes. Although maybe that is because the rattlers live a bit to the west.

Somewhat unrelated; Didja know there is an earthworm that grows to be 3 feet long! True story. Giant Palouse Earthworm. That ought to catch a big fish.
