I tried posting this last night but couldn't get it to go through on my end. Finally, it would show up and then would disappear. Not sure what the problem is/was, so I'm just gonna re-post it here as a new subject instead of part of the thread. Sorry!!! If you read it before, I guess you can skip it here.
First of all, Ma, you were saying you couldn't watch snake shows on TV; I am actually fascinated by snake shows. I enjoy watching them on TV, but not when there's no protective barrier between them and me! I even like to look at them through the glass at aquariums, the zoo or other exhibits. But I still HATE them and will not touch them. I don't even like to touch pictures of them.
I don't know if I've ever told it here on the forum or not, but my daughter, Julie, has been bitten by a copperhead and a rattle snake. The copperhead bit her through her tennis shoe and only one fang deposited a little bit of venom just under the skin, on the side of her foot. It only went underneath the skin (kind of like how you can slide a straight pin under your skin without making yourself bleed). Since it didn't penetrate down into the meat of her foot, the venom didn't get into her bloodstream so she didn't have to have any anti-venom. The side of her foot did swell a good bit and turned a dark pinkish/purplish color. The skin finally peeled off in that area. She has a shiny light pink scar there now. That happened when she was in the 11th grade (She is 21 now).
When the rattle snake bit her it was on her arm, but it delivered a "dry bite" and didn't deposit enough venom to get into her bloodstream. Again, she didn't have to have anti-venom. I don't have a picture of her foot from when the copperhead bit her, but I do have a picture of the rattle snake bite. Even though it was considered a "dry bite" it still caused a nasty looking place on her arm that was there for over a month, and her arm did swell a lot and turned ugly colors and was all splotchy. She has a scar there now, but it isn't all that noticeable, especially if you aren't looking for it, are already know it's there. That happened summer before last. I'll attach the pictures of that bite area. The pictures were taken with one of her friend's cell phone and is horrible quality, but you can still see how much it swelled and how it was all splotchy and nasty looking.

This first picture was taken a few hours after she was bitten. I drew circles around the fang marks but it was already swollen enough that you might not be able to really see them in the pic.

This second picture was taken about two weeks later. It's still very swollen and has a blister looking place on it.
