Tried out a friends v3 yesterday and I kept looking for little old ladies w/ buckets of nickles.......... Sounds like the middle of a casino x video game arcade.... Seemed to work well, but i'll stick to the 2 willow twigs waiting for them to cross.....

I must not have done very well, had to dig quarters out of the ground, kept looking for them to drop out of the detector.....

Just my 2 cents.....

It sounds like you and your Sovereign GT is a match made in heaven. I'm the first to admit the V Series is NOT for everyone.

They were zinc 2 cents that have been eaten up by the salt water......

I was just trying to provide a little humor, but it was way to slot machine sounding for me.....

For those interested who are reading this, all 191 VDI numbers are fully programmable to any audible tone that you like. So if anyone doesn't like what they are hearing, simply change it.

Yep, 191 tones are available. It can be set up with as many tones as you want or just one tone. The iron can also be set to zero tone. The tones can be set in blocks. What more could a person want?

My apologies to Borntofli, you caught me in a bad mood yesterday and I took your post as an attack on the V3. A more appropriate reply to your post should have been the following:

It sounds like the V was not adjusted properly or you were over a treasure chest of coins. With the Gain and Discrimination set properly for your ground conditions, the V should run relatively quiet until you are over a target that is accepted by your discrimination settings. You may also have been experiencing EMI that could also be greatly eliminated through proper adjustment. Since you were just trying out a friends V, I wouldn't expect you to know how to make those adjustments, your friend should have helped you stabilize his V3 for you to use and enjoy.

There are many videos showing the V3/V3i/VX3 being used and set properly and even some showing them being used improperly. The V series is the most advanced detector on the market and it does take a while to learn how to best use it.

Again, my apologies for my attitude yesterday.

I agree with Rob

The tones on a V3i can be set many ways, this is part of the V3i versatility. I have a modified deep silver program, discriminated out all vdi except for +75 to +94, I assigned the all discriminated vdi a tone of 0 and the accepted vdi a tone of 250, now the V3i is a single tone machine.

You can set the V3i to just about any preference you want to.

hehe,, when youre the top of the heap theyre always lookin to discredit and knock ya down to the bottom of the pile... i dont understand why, if they dont think its a good machine why they come on here and try to force us to see the light.... im confused ,,help me please!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe it makes them feel better about thier $100 detector. You know, the one that never makes a sound.

Just goes to show that no detector, no matter how good it is, will suit everyone's taste.

I've owned a couple of good detectors I could never quite connect with and sold them.

No harm, no foul.

If I only had the problem of having someone with a V3 around my part of the country that could help me learn it, I would buy one. I love the design of the V3 but in my area the MXT I have is about the top of the line MD around. So until I get enough guts to go for the best & figure it out myself I 'll have to stick with the MXT.

In my opinion one of the best Whites has made. I had one for quite a few years but I do like the V3i better.

well you got the best forum and the best guys to answer question , what more could you ask for .. i had my days with the v3, v3i and with the help of the 2 forums and the great guys even i learned how to find some silver, clad & rings . so if i was you id get 1,,,, dont let it scare you . no one just picks up a metal detector and runs out and gets treasure. it a learning experience. everyday just like life.. and it does wonders for you just being out there and finding things... hope you get 1 and find out what i mean.. goodluck !!!!!!!!!!:detecting:
