Replacing coil cover question

Never thought about doing that. I don't think coil covers cause any loss of depth.

I have never thought about doing that. I don't think it makes any difference but let us know if you find it does make a difference. The only problem I see with doing this is if you detect beaches, sand will get in between the coil and cover so much easier as will any dirt or foreign objects. I would have to be cleaning the coil very frequently.
One trick I use is using 3-4 zip ties to secure the cover. I have occasionally had my coil cover slip of in-between leaving home and getting to the beach or park etc;. I think mine are a little loose fit because of use (or abuse)!!!. I have to cut the ties at the end of the day and wash the coil off but zip ties are cheap and I don't mind doing that.

I havent worn one out yet, but I agree that the main issue would be cleanliness. I vote for not trimming.
