Rings around the Rosie...

mudpuppy

New member
Saturday it was blowing cold and snowing again, I hit a totlot and found one of these little rings, then a mile a way I found the other in the dirt of a field. They are both the same size and make and identical cheap little 925's with the row of stones...Sunday was fairly uneventful, clad, but I did get a classic beavertail signal in centerfield, and was surprised to see a gold tone medallion come up from the dirt, its a fake unfortunately...I got sent on an errand today and stopped at that park where I found the merc last week, second target was this 1960 Rosie! 5" deep, and on edge...had to use the FPoint to find it! Also got a 37 and a 19 wheat there too! Theres a little area in this park where I have found now 3 silver dimes in the last few years, two of them being this week alone...I am running 67 sens now...and really paying attention to those tiny pings in this area. Guess now that I somewhat know what I am doing I can re-hunt all my old spots for silver?..The weather is really hot now, 60's...I had to turn on the AC coming home, and even had to take off my stocking hat while hunting today...head was sweating like a beer can! Hmmm...beer, that's the ticket by cracky!:buds: Hope you all are getting some dirt time in!

Your a lucky man Mud, I have never found a ring let alone two! Never found any gold either, it seems to be a rare find for most.

You start thinking and dreaming gold, and you will find it! Read all of the posts daily if you can, just to see what certain really successful goldfinders do, what areas they hunt, and what type of targets they dig...you can learn and succeed by following their example...another good thing to help you think about where gold is lost is to read the "lost and found" section of Craigslist...not to go looking for that specific item mind you, but to get an idea of how to hunt...seems most wimmen lose their rings and gold in certain locations, most are parking lots or stores or bathrooms it seems...what you are trying to do is to get to know the travel patterns of wimmen! if you see tracks of a stroller in a totlot or on the sand, or left in the grass of a park, follow them! Learn the patterns and signs that wimmen leave behind....even something as simple as a Kleenex on the ground at a soccerfield is important! Guys don't use kleenex! We use our sleeves or do the snotrocket thing with one finger on a nostril and a sharp exhale...if you hit signals like bobby pins on the beach, slow down and sweep that area for foil signals...most wimmen wear gold, so you are really following them and paying attention...where do they like to sit and watch a game? where would you park and walk if you were them? What kind of cigarettes do they smoke? Where is the nearest portapottie or bathroom? Walk those lines! You learn as much as you can about wimmen, and you will find the gold! Where the wimmen are is also where the guys are showing off, fighting, etc...that's where you got to focus on the larger signals, where a guy would climb a tree and swing from a certain horizontal limb, that pulls his ring off, or dumps his necklace etc.....take your favorite park and approach a hunt as serious as you can thinking about this, and BOOM! Gold! One more thing...you can approach a gold hunt as an "odds" type of deal...you get really good at super fast target recovery, where you can bang out a couple hundred targets in a morning, going after those unusual and sometimes scratchy targets from zinc down into foil, including pulltabs, and eventually the gold will show up...then its just a matter of odds...sooner or later, with enough targets dug or stabbed, gold shows up.

Way to go Mud!

Searching the grassy area between the curb and sidewalk where people park their cars is rewarding. I hit gold and silver in front of a apartment complex a few days ago.

Just as I was thinking of Jimmy when I hit this sideways dime signal in the junk...Would he dig it? yep.. You fellows would do yourselves a favor by following Tabby's posts.. ..a couple of other hunters as well always get the gold consistently...You think about these guys posts as you hunt..and if you think they would dig this signal or not when you come across one, we are all brothers in arms against time and treasure! :beers:

Nice job, Mud!

So, what you are saying is to only notch out the iron, not the foil, right? Dang! I thought all the rings came under the "tabs" notch, so I was disc'ing out "foil". oops.

I did find my first silver ring last night and will be posting it tonight, make sure to look for it, it's a beaut! LOL

I'll get this whole MD'ing thing figured out sooner or later.

HH Mud!

When it comes to using the notch function, to each his own and probably site specific. That said, since you are new to this, don't notch anything for a while if you can...you want to know what all signals are if possible. The Human brain can store a tremendous amount of information, and iron tones are important to let you know what has been going on in certain areas...you get below a big oak tree for instance, as you are walking up, you can see it would be a good place to build a tree house, you know pretty sure you will hit some 8d and 16d nail signals...they help you locate the drop zone...on the beach you know a bobby pin makes a certain sound, and you want to hear those, they put you in the "lane" for gold and silver!. Also most knives you will want to find, really nice Bucks or Gerbers or Swiss army knives...all in the iron...that's why I run in 1 disc, with no notch...just want to hear it all and figure out what it could be before I pull it. Sure theres something to be said about highgrading an area for nothing but silver coins, a successful and good way to hunt certain areas...but really, to get very good at this, dig everything for a while and get to know those tones. Chances are you will enjoy the education and find some cool stuff...I once found a cigar tin at the base of a old tree that had 7 wheat pennys in it..would not have found that if iron was notched, and sure, they were only pennys, but they COULD have been silver dollars!

Nice one's Mud, small or otherwise, silvers are always good. Man, 67 sen., you are starting to get serious about finding silver. HH jim tn

You know I wouldn't have found this coin without your inspiration? :please::clapping: Sure I know you F75 guys like to run at a 99 sens...I'm working up to that slowly...Technically speaking, everybody knows the F70 is much hotter than the 75, has something to do with the power for having the backlight on the screen you old guys seem to need being diverted to the circuitry...If I try to run any hotter, I find myself picking up the planes landing in Beijing, and once I was even tracking Haley's comet when I cranked it up to 80..a real chattery annoyance! F75's were made specifically for old guys who want to hunt slowly in the top 5", gently stooping every now and then to pull a shallow silver.. The F70 was developed as a military weapon that would melt the armor plate off a Russian tank in Kyrgestan if fully opened up any where above 90...so I am trying to be a responsible detectorist and not start a global conflict...If one day I do get the notion to try to beat your finds this year, I would have to buy a pair of lead undershorts and rent a backhoe to follow me around. Until then, I will be content stabbing pennys and accidentally tripping across a silver dime or ring, running low sens, with the coil swinging waist level, or even just driving by a park and waving it out the window.

Shoot the F75 doesn't even have to be waved outside the window..Just drive by with it on !!

The only silver its hitting is in your teeth! You know that's why they call it the F75? Only customers that are over the age of 75 are allowed to buy them! They are sort of like the Hoveround, covered by Medicare and everything! The Govt wants you old duffers out digging around in the dirt and not writing letters to their representatives about the pothole down on the corner, or howcome your COLA on your SS is short a nickel...so the F75 was created...the F70 on the other hand, is a serious machine intended for professional dirt warriors in the 50 ish age bracket... F5's too, F4's summarily...I think its the backlight...sort of like the light that comes on in the refridgerator so you old boys can tell a gallon of milk from a brick of cheese in the dark..The govt wants to be knowing you old guys can find your way back home so they don't have to send out a search party looking for you all the dang time. So, go get your medicare electric scooter from the scooter store, and ask about getting the F75 upgrade, head on down to your local park, and keep yourselves occupied while us professionals get out there and do our thing! ..

I'll say one thing, if B S was pennies, you would have a billion of them. Consequently, why are you out there with that F 70 always stabbing for cents when you spew so much B S? HH jim tn

Full moons coming up soon boys, you know what that means, it pulls all the silver and gold up out of the ground! Lets try to represent here on the Fisher Forum no matter what you swing! As for myself, I'll be stabbing pennys, but good luck to the rest of you!:beers:

Ok I got a couple of ultra small rings out of the wife's case and did a quick air test to see where they hit the f70 and with the 11dd air testing them the 10k hit a strong signal 18-19 the 14k hit 22-23 both were solid hits until I rotate them to edge and the 14k stayed solid ish around 20-21 and the 10k dropped to 15-16 jumping to 18. Now I don't know the size of these rings they are for babies and won't even start on my pinky. I would imagine they are some of the smallest gold you would find, next to a chain or bracelet. I will be re addressing my disk levels now to include them. Maybe that's why I haven't foun any chains myself.

Almost a fools errand to go after all solid high teens and low 20's signals hoping for gold...except on the beach of course, where a guy can really grab all targets quickly. I find it a more reasonable approach to think things like the tones, area, and likely hood through...sure, I have no idea of what I've missed in the dirt of trashy parks, and I bet its a lot, but as long as I don't think about it too hard, it doesn't bother me. those guys like Revier and some of the others that find large gold class rings all the time in the zinc signals really frost my biscuit! and when they post a chain I practically dirty myself! Can you imagine what a short area of a park would look like if you dug it all? Stabbing rings with a screwdriver is tough enough, let alone digging every little subtle signal in the sod. Ok..for your inspiration, heres the only gold chain I found to date, and you can see why...no missing this signal..and I found it a few months into this sport before I knew any better..'course there was an oil tanker connected to it.

I agree I think I will keep my disk at a reasonable level. I will test some chains and report back later about how the hit. Yes if we dig every signal in the teens the local park would look really bad. Most of the rings I have got have been in the mid 20's and 30's. One big mans ring was in the tab range on its lower range but it was 8.1g of 14k.
