rock/lead/copper???

I found this down about 10" today it looks like a green rock it weighs 5.9 oz. I was thinking maybe melted copper being it was green but non of the green is coming off it looks stained or something. It doesnt look like anything to me really so it has me baffled. Can you figure it out?

EDIT* Rang up on the CTX 3030 @ 12/35 out of the ground 12/43 13/44 in ground.

Where did you find it, is it magnetic and is it metallic or stone?

I found it at an old park earliest finds at the park are 1860-1890s I am not sure if it is magnetic I am taking it to work tomorrow to check it and show the Archaeologist. It fits the description of the Basalt. It also has brown and black coloring in it just dominant in Green. Follow up on if it is magnetic tomorrow. I think it is more stone for sure but not 100%

EDIT * the images however from looking further into Basalt do not look to be correct to what I have. I do see some "Crystal Formation" or at least what could be called crystals on my rock or whatever it is but it just doesnt seem to match up correctly. Duno

About to head back to work to test this thing but I chipped a piece last night and it looks to be copper slag.

We find lots of copper over here in Michigan, looks like it could possibly be a piece of native copper, where abouts are you located?

My guess is it is a piece of melted copper that has been in the ground a while. Try scraping it a bit.

Pieces of metal get burnt all the time, house fires, garbage fires, what ever. The burnt pieces often don't look pretty. Children pick up odd things and carry it where ever until they tire of the novelty.

I never find large pieces of melted copper at fires sites, I'm so unlucky. Anyway not to discount your theory but I think that if it was pure/melted copper it would not chip off like the OP stated it did, pure/melted copper would bend before it would chip. Just an observation but anything is possible.

The slag may have a bit of copper or bronze in it, but if it was solid copper, it would ID much higher than 12-35. A memorial cent comes in higher than that.
