S.E.F. Coil Cover Cleaning ?

E-Trac-Ohio

Well-known member
I have a S.E.F 10 x 12 Coil on order - but I've never seen one up close - just wanted to ask ...

Does as much dirt and grass build up inside the S.E.F. coil covers as the Minelab Pro Coil covers - or are they designed differently ?

No big deal either way - just curious - thought I'd ask.

Thanks --- Mark

On an average nice (dry) day you won't get much of anything under the cover. During weather like that I might take the cover off and clean every 3rd or 4th hunt. After a wet or muddy hunt, I always take the cover off and clean before the next hunt.

How much does a dirty cover affect the ability of the coil to find signals? Is it simply a cosmetic issue? Just curious.

I usually pop the cover off my Pro Coil Cover before every hunt - it seems easier to clean after the dirt and grass have dried.
If I'm in the field I'll just wipe them down with the rag I always carry with me in my pouch.
I don't know how much dirt it takes to lower the machines performance - but any dirt at all can't help - besides it only takes two or three minutes to clean the coil and the cover.

Im currently using the 10x12 S.E.F The cover is fitted tightly around the coil. There isnt much that gets in there.... I"ll usually check it after im using it in muddy conditions. Other than that, not much to worry about. Your gonna love the 10x12....I havent used my Pro Coil since last year. The 8x6 S.E.F is worth getting also.
