Sad and strange story.

Names withheld to protect the guilty... who are probably dead and gone by now anyway.

Last year I asked a friend, who is an elder at a local country church, for permission to hunt the grounds. He never got back to me but later I saw him and he gave me a vague answer about the black cemetary and the elders thought it might be a problem. He didn't elaborate and I didn't push it.

About a month ago I was talking to someone else about it who opened up about it. I don't know when this happened, I assume over 50 years ago..

There was a slave cemetary on the grounds. The good folk of the church didn't like it and at some point they had it bulldozed. Now... this cannot be undone but I believe that if the folk today could undo it they would. I understand now why they said no. I know in recent years they have had joint services with the black church in the community, it is a small community out in the country. Things are much better now. I am sure there is repentance and forgivness.

I talked with the person who told me the story and we were wondering about getting GPR and trying to find and mark the gravesites again but I don't know anything about GPR and it seems really expensive. There was a unit on the market a few years ago for around 500 bucks but I cannot seem to find it now. Maybe it didn''t work well. It was a geo something.

I am sorry these things happened but I am happy that the attitude has changed and people now care... at least some do.
