SAFARI AIR TESTS 3 DIFF COILS AT 4 DIFF SENSITIVITIES

Hello all - Been detecting about 6 months with a Safari. I know that air testing can have little value correlating to actual ground performance - but I did an unscientific comparison between 3 coils at 4 different sensitivies. This would have been a great test in a coin garden - but do not have the daylight time for that right now. Somewhat inteteresing is how the different coils perform at different sensitivity levels. 11" PRO Double D COIL - 12"x10" SEF COIL - 8" Sunray Stealth COIL - Air Testing - US- quarter, dime, nickel, and penny at Auto, 12, 15, 18, sensitivity levels. All depths rounded DOWN to the nearest .5"

All measurements in inches - solid repeatable signal

I have used all 3 of these coils in old yards - best luck with x-8 so far, but all are good - I find little difference bewtween PRO and SEF. Slight edge to SEF in separation

An interesting chart that compares the power output of the different coils in different sentitivities. I am really looking forward to trying the x-8 running on 15 sensitivity in my yard. 15 seems to be the sweet spot for stability and depth in my yard after a noise cancel.

Thank you for taking the time to do the test. A test I have done is to take wooden golf tees and mark iffy targets and come back and play with the sensitivity and modes. But your test is known targets with different coils. Air test or not it is what it is . Again thanks for your time and effort. Very informative.

That is my next test. I want to do a systematic test like this one with the different sensitivities and coils but in soil - It will take much more time but will be more useful information. Most surprising to me is how much depth I lose in auto-sensitivity on my Safari both in my everyday detecting, and in air tests. I was using auto all the time with pro-coil.

I am getting as much depth but much more accuracy with the small 8" stealth COIL coil if adjusting the sensitivity to the MAX while maintaining stability. Seems to be about 15 or 16 sensitivity in my yard which is an 1875 built house in Massachusetts. Lucky to live right on a good practice site. I am sure once I get better with PRO and SEF COILS I will be able to achieve much better accuracy and target separation. My next in-ground test will also include the 5" SUNRAY.

like to use AUTO sensitivity on any FBS or BBS model. Never. I much prefer to be in control as the Auto function seems to seek out the lowest (quietest) of the available functional sensitivity levels for any site.

I look forward to your in-the-field comparisons. Glad to hear you're going to get a 5" coil to work the trash with. They are slow and time consuming, but they can pay off in the end.
