Salt water

Is it OK to use the ETRAC on beaches and in salt water? Is there anything special I should do or buy before doing this. If not any recommendations on which machine I should look into.

Thanks
Bill

I myself would not get in the water with my E-Trac. On the beach ( wet or dry sand ) the E-Trac is as good as you can have. Keep the machine clean with a protective cover of some type and clean it after each use. The mist in the salt water environment can and will harm anything if you don't take the time to clean your machine. A damp cloth works well and I use Armor-All wipes last which seem to work for me. The main thing is to take your shaft apart and clean good or the sections WILL seize. A lot can go wrong quickly if you go in the water. If you are going to water hunt get a water machine and a good scoop then when a wave out of nowhere knocks you down while you are trying to retrieve a target your E-Trac and wallet will thank you. Good luck and HH :minelab:

I took mine to the NC coast twice last summer and didn't have any luck. I love it at home but there is just something different when you detect at the beach. Maybe I need to spend a little more time learning to detect at the beach or maybe it's not what the E-trac excels in?!?! I'm not sure.......

Even though the ET works well in the dry/wet salt beaches. Just the salt water air will give it a short life span. I used mine for a wile but got a dedicated beach machine that can handle the conditions.

The E-trac works at the beach and in the surfs edge but don't get the processor wet. Your best bet is to stick with Minelab but go to the Excalibur I own one and it rocks at the ocean and its made for the water, you cant go wrong.

If you do hunt at the beach a word of caution when rinsing the coil off. Andy Sabisch talked about it in his book, never hold the coil up when rinsing the coil because the water will run down the shaft into the electronics.
