Sat. and Mon. finds (silver, IH,...)

There's a triangle of land between roads in town that I'd been wanting to check out for a while--it shows on the 1870s map. Finally checked it out on Saturday after dropping the kids off at their moms to do some things. Power lines were right overhead so, even after noise canceling, I had to drop the sensitivity some. Started working right down the middle to the point of the triangle and didn't turn up much interesting except a shiny blob of something that seems like silver but I can't imagine why it would be. It's heavy. Came out of the ground pretty shiny and shines up further with light brushing so I don't think it's pure lead. Solder comes to mind thoiugh. Also found a brush doohickey that I thought might be a rivet-like object from an old horse harness on it but I found a recent patent date on it when I got home. Got to the apex of the triangle and thought I'd try an edge, so worked my way back on the south side. As expected, the soil has obviously been turned but that worked to my advantage perhaps, since I found an 1873 Indian Head only about 3-4" down. (In better shape than it looks in the photo but, after closer examination, not in as good a shape as I thoght when I mentioned it earlier.) Was getting time to go so I started a quick scan across where I had avoided at first, thinking it would be the most disturbed ground. Turned up a '42 Merc that I gouged--first time for gouging silver but at least it was already pretty scratched--and a chewed '54 Rosie. (Found a lot of mangled pennies here, including one smeared into a teardrop shape. I think that comes from snowplows probably piling snow there during the winter.) I think I like the tiny key and the IH best. Also, in the bottom right corner, is a domed brass/copper thing that I'm thinking is probably a decoration from a horse harness or perhaps a button but I really don't know. It looks like something may have been attached on the inside but I can't tell. Any ideas?

On the way home from work on Monday, I thought I'd hit the location I found the 1817 LC at the previous week. This location was a gravel pit a 100 or so years ago and there is a LOT of large metal under the ground. Some of them read 3-4' across. And, on one, I lifted the coil as high off the ground as I could reach and was still getting a reading! But, nonetheless, after detecting in the area where I found the LC for about 15m, I headed off in a direction I'd not tried before. A little ways out from a large tree, I hit the '55 Washington. Nice clear signal but not that deep. (Found a clad quarter at about 8" later.) I scanned the immediate area and also pulled out the '42 Jefferson war nickle--my first S mint war nickle!--and a '50s wheat or two. Scanned a zillion more giant pieces of iron--they can be confusing at first--as I continued in that direction, then turned around to head back to the car. Picked up a few more wheats, including a '29, but that was it.

Hit the farm/ball field on the way home Tuesday but there were ball teams on the fields so I stayed on the edges and didn't get anything but clad. Finally gave up and went home.

Last night stopped briefly--half hour maybe--at a location I've found some buffaloes at, a '64 IH (at least I think it's the '64 -- could have been one of the later ones), and my only gold (w/ ruby) ring but only retreived clad. Had 3 iffy signals that I dug, and dug, and dug (and dug) trying to find but only managed to reach one of them but I gave up on that one too because it was too large to get out easily and I was running out of time.

Treasure is where you least expect it  I'm sure many have passed that up whout a second thought.

I imagine they have. I'd been putting it off for quite a while. It's kind of strange to be on a small piece of land with traffic going by on all sides.

I forgot but your other post reminded me--I found the stem and mouthpiece of a pot pipe also--first one. Looked like a plow had severed it. Kinda funny how often those seem to turn up from what I've seen of others' posts.
