Yesterday certainly boosted my confidence a bit. I was on my way to GGP when I noticed a spot that looked old and perhaps less pounded. I didn't find any silver coins, so its likely someones hitting it though. It was a good choice as I ended up surpassing my wheat cent record by recovering 5 wheaties (2x1944 S, 1952, 1953, 1956 D pictured in order) and came back with two pieces of jewelry (1 costume, 1 sterling Lucy Ann bar charm http://www.lucyann.com/Category/18/bar.aspx). I also found a 1949 CA DMV metal tag http://www.davesclp.com/49ca.jpg. which is selling on E-Bay for $43.
I'm trying to think why I might've done better this go around and I have my suspicions:
1. Old site, but probably less hunted.
2. New headphones (Gray Ghost NDTs) appear to do better for me on distinguishing memorials from wheat cents
3. More attention to deeper, less shallow coins. But I still haven't fully overcome the temptation to recover shallow clad :beat:
Cheers,
-Alex
P.S. - the foreign coin is from a previous hunt. Its a 1996 25 ORE from Denmark
