Saturday and Sunday's Finds. Coins.

James N.D.

New member
Did pretty well this weekend. I went detecting with a buddy of mine named Tim Pazdernik on Saturday and Rick(ND) finally met us at an old Town Hall. Finally I got to detect with the First Place Finisher of the Find of the Month for this year. I ended up getting 2nd Place and I was always on his tail till the end. Well, let's just say that Tim's oldest coin for Saturday was a 1961 Jefferson Nickel. That's right, that was his oldest! The members in the Club will know what kind of a shock this would mean when they read this. Let's just say I kicked his butt pretty good. On Saturday I found 3 Merc's, 2 Wheat's, 1 Buffalo Nickel, 1 Jefferson War Nickel, 4 Indian Heads, along with an old Belt Buckle, 2 Thimbles stuck together, Part of an old Print Plate, Some Tin Pin of sorts that says American Junior Red Cross, and a Whatzit. Rick(ND) found a 1910 Wheat Penny the first 15 Minutes there but didn't find any other old coins. Better Luck next time Rick. Saturday turned out good and it was a short 4 Hour Hunt. I got 1 Dateless Canadian Quarter with the King on the Front that was the length of the Probe Deep, 3 Merc's, 1 Roosevelt Dime, a weird Token, 2 older Canadian Pennies, 23 Wheat's, and a Silver 1945 Class Ring but it isn't much of a Ring anymore. So here is what the totals are. I found 8 Silver (not including the War Nickel) which included 1 Canadian Quarter without a date, 6 Mercury Dimes dated 1916-s,1917,1918,1943-d,1944, and1945-d, and 1 Roosevelt Dime dated 1947-d. I found 2 Nickels which were 1 Buffalo Nickel dated 1914 (Due to the ground being frozen the first 2"-3" early in the morning, I nailed this Nickel with the Lesche) and 1 Jefferson War Nickel dated 1943-P. I also found a Weird Token. It says on the Front V A N A K C O R P every other spacing and says Pat Pend in the middle. The Back only has the first part and not Pat Pend. I also found 2 Older Canadian Pennies and both are dated 1932. I also found 4 Indian Heads dated (2)1896,1903 (in very bad shape), and 1907. I found yet another 25 Wheat Pennies dated 1919-s,1922-d,1927-d,1929-d,1930-d,1932-d,1933-d,1935-d,1936-d,1938-d,1939,1940,1940-s,1941-d,(3)1944-d,1945-d,1946-d,1949-d,(2)1952-d,1953,1953-d, and 1958-d. The other Pic's will follow shortly below for the other finds I made. Here is the rest of the finds this weekend. I found an old Class Ring made from Silver and I imagine it was a Female that had this one since it would have been so small. The date is 1945 but the Ring has seen better days, as you can tell, it is bent up and broke so unsure if there is any Initials on the inside just yet. I will have to try and pry it open a bit more to see if there is indeed any Initials. I also found an old Tin Pin or something like a Pin that says American Junior Red Cross on the front and has some writing on the inside on the back that says something like Local N0.3? Must be some kind of Collectible Set of some sort? I will show a pic for the front and back. I also found 2 different Thimbles that are stuck together. One Reads Dakota Maid Flour and the other Reads Good Foods with 18K inside a circle. Both are made from Aluminum. I also found a piece of an old Printing Plate but I cannot say for sure what it was Advertising. I also dug an old Belt Buckle that is Cast Brass. Must be pretty old since the site I was at was dated all the way back to 1884. And the last thing I found was some kind of Whatzit. It appears to be made maybe out of Stainless Steel since there is no rust and it says O.C. KADE CHICAGO on the front. Hope this weekend produces as well as this last one did and Good Luck and HH to you all during the week if you are able to get out. There are a few locations that have finds left in them and the one I was at Sunday was an old Fairgrounds not in operation anymore. I have been pounding this spot for a few months off and on and the finds just keep coming to the surface. I was shocked to find as much as I did on Sunday at this spot since there has been over 100 Silver pulled already by me and a few other detectorist's that I invited. That Canadian Quarter was trying to act like Iron for some reason but if I moved back just far enough I could get a good signal telling me it was no piece of Iron. The Probe length must be about 10" and that is were I popped the Quarter from. I intend to go back this weekend and hit it once more this year and see what else is waiting for me to retrieve and bring back home with me. Good Luck and HH.

Sure is fun digging the old Coins. Just wonder how many old Coins are still waiting to be found at that old defunct Fairgrounds? Good Luck and HH.

Nice finds James, you must have been in the tall grass at the Hall. Ive gotten a few older IH's out of the tall grass but it is tough to work.

Good going James,
amazing what's down there huh???

Did pretty good I thought and NO, the War Nickel isn't a 43 Double Eye, but I do have one in my collection that I must have found in Change long ago. Was sure excited when I seen it for the first time. Good Luck and HH.:detecting:

I wish you could have seen Tim though after it was time to head back. He just didn't have much to say but that he really hasn't been feeling lucky lately. I knew that I was going to blow him away with finds on Saturday but I didn't think that it was going to be a No Contest type of ending like it ended up being. I just hope he lets me go with him next year to a few spots but I may have blown that after the Slaughter. Guess the best detectorist's have bad days also. And I also have a good start on next year's finds of the month. Can't wait till this weekend and see what else I may bring back home with me. Good Luck and HH if you get out before freeze-up.

I just wish Rick(ND) would have had more luck since he doesn't get out that much and when he does he has to stick close to home so he can open up the Bar. One of these days Rick, I will find a hot spot close to town and I will bring you and I guarantee that you will find more than your share of finds for one outing. Thanks again and Good Luck and HH.

:crazy:nice finds James heard it was tough hunting Rick said the wifes coil and shaft are in still waiting on the machine to come one of these days would like to try it out soon.

Im glad to see there are still some finds coming from this spot. I know there is a lot more there if a guy wants to spend the time to work it. HH and good luck this weekend. Me and Palmer are going out for a couple hours tomarrow

Tim is very capable of blowing everyone away and I feel he has a 6th sense sometimes as he know right were to go at a site and pick out the only coins there is. Saturday was not one of those days for him as we seen. I hope we can all get out together again and maybe Tim will clean house again like he has done before, maybe it will be me too the swings my coil over the good targets as the coil has to go over the good targets in order to get them.
It was fun anyway and I enjoy hunting with the 2 that seems to find more in one day than some find in a year.

Thanks James and Tim for inviting me along, we have to do this again someday.

Rick

Tim is an excellent detectorist and all year long just reminded everyone in the club just how good he really is. With the amount of Seated Coins and great finds he found this year, he definitely deserved to finish in 1st Place.:please: I know there has been times that Randy or Dale has smoked me on trips out and it isn't a good feeling to know the finds are there but you just can't swing the coil over them. So everyone does have the occasional bad detecting day. I hope that Tim stays in the Club next year and I also hope to go and do some detecting with him next year also since you know that I have been wanting to get out with him all year long just to hang out and have a good time. If Tim decides to stay in the Club, lets just go out and have fun finding what we like to find and don't worry about the points and the finishing ranks. That is the whole idea of this great hobby, just to go out and find what you can and have fun doing it. No Pressure Tim next year and I hope me and Rick can get out with you again more often next year. Good Luck and HH Rick and Tim next year. And thanks for letting me finally get out and detect with you Tim, it was fun and maybe next time you will kick my butt in the field. No hard feelings Buddy!

I think your wife will like it after she gets out and tries it a few times. So, did Rick tell you what I found just at that spot? I found 3 Indians,1 Wheat Penny, 1 Jefferson War Nickel (The Silver Content Type), and a Mercury Dime. Not bad for a well hunted spot. Hope Rick can get the machine in for you and your wife so you can at least try it before Winter sets in. Good Luck and HH to the both of you.

Smoked 'em huh? Sometimes it is just luck of the draw - the person has the better spots. But I wonder if there is more to it.....you do seem to be a bit better than the average joe.

Anyway great job on all those old coins. I wish I could find more Canadian Silver.

That printer's block is cool. Did you invert the image with your photo editor or mirror to read what is printed on it? I found one this year with civil war writings.

Bob
