Saturday's Hunt with the Explorer XS reveals 56 Keepers + Bonuses. Part:1.

Back with another go around of finds from my last outing. So let's get this puppy started!

Dale, Tim, and I decided to try a Park that Tim had been to before and had found a few Keepers at and Dale had recently visited pulling a Silver Quarter, a Merc, and a few Wheats on Tuesday, the 9th of September. This would be the first time I would see this Park and hunt it so I didn't really know what to expect but I was definitely looking forward to seeing this Park just so I would know what it looked like and have my crack at it to see how many Silver I could pull.

We arrived at the Park on Saturday Morning, just in time for it to start raining on us so we decided to wait until it slowed up and then start detecting. It must have rained for about 15-20 Minutes, and it was coming down hard enough to get pools of water to start standing next to trees and the Picnic Shelters. It finally slowed and we got the gear on and started hunting. We started to find a Wheat here and a Wheat there, but nothing great yet. Finally, Dale pulls up a Barber Dime and then he really started covering some ground. I wish you other detectorist's could see how fast Dale can cover ground because it is amazing! You'll look up and see him in one spot and the next minute, he will be 100' away from where you last saw him. I swear Dale can cover an Acre of Ground in 15 Minutes when Silver is found! :detecting::yikes: Anyways, it was time to kick it in High Gear and start working this Park in a Pattern to get the most out of it. The Park was Huge and I am sure there is tons more finds yet to be found at a later date. We hunted this 1st Park for most of the day and it was still giving up a few Keepers when we decided to go try a different Park. Tim had done exceptionally well here at the 1st Park and he got the Coin I was looking for. I guess I shouldn't think to hard about finding specific Coins since both Coins I was after was grabbed up by Tim and Dale. Tim found a Barber Quarter, the Coin I was looking for, a Silver Quarter, a Barber Dime, a couple Merc's and Rosie's, (8 Silver total) and a bunch of Wheats. Dale found an Old Canadian Quarter, a Barber Dime, and a few other Silver Dimes, (5 Silver I think?), a Good For Token, a V-Nickel, and a bunch of Wheats. I got a bunch of Wheats, 7 Merc's, 3 Rosie's, 2 Canadian Pennies, and an Old Transit Token, a Key, a Sterling Silver Ring with Amethyst, an Old Salt and Pepper Shaker Lid, a Large Ugly Button, a Kids Monster Ring, a Locket with Mary on it, and a Zippo Lighter.

Dale got lucky and found the Canadian Quarter, Token, Merc, and a few Wheats where Tim had worked a bit with the E-TRAC. Tim didn't try High Trash on the E-TRAC since this was were these Coins were being found at. He still is getting a feel of the detector and doesn't want to jump into all the different settings since it is doing great in Factory Mode so far. Tim got his Barber Quarter, Barber Dime, and a few other Coins here while Patterning this area well. Dale stuck around this area with his Explorer XS and hit it from different directions and was getting some nice finds, ones that I can't believe didn't give a Signal when Tim went through it. I even come walking back through this area and popped out a couple Wheats and a Merc that Dale had missed. Next time, I'm going to do the crawl with the Joey Coil instead of the Pro Coil to see if I can't wiggle out a few more Keepers from this spot in the Park. Tim said I should have put it on and told Dale that I would have pulled another 40 pieces of Silver from it which I got a chuckle out of so we will see when I go back, whenever that will be. Just thought I would share this surprise during this Park hunt.

Next was Park 2, which was fully occupied so that was out of the question. We were driving around and Dale thought he had seen another Park so we went looking for it. We stopped at another Park that has Houses built around the 30's it looked like and gave it a try since it was getting late in the day to try and find something else to hit. We started working it and there were hardly any Signals at all in this Park which was odd. I think there must have been some ground work or something since there wasn't much of Iron Signals either. I finally got lucky and popped out a Silver Quarter here. Then I found a Wheatie and a bit later another Wheatie. Tim was ready to go try a Country Church and so was I until Dale pulled out the Second Coin I was looking for, a Walking Liberty Half Dollar. We all agreed that we should just work this Park for the rest of the hunt time since it was a matter of only about an hour until it got dark out. We worked and worked and only found a few more Wheats but this Park is a City Block in size so who knows what and where the Keepers are at in this Park. Might have to go back sometime and try this Park again.

So this Saturday's Hunt was successful even though Tim got the Barber Quarter I was hoping to find and Dale got the Walking Liberty Half Dollar I was looking for also. I can't complain with what I found this Saturday so I'm satisfied with the results. Another Great Job on finds Dale and Tim and hope to continue making more finds together next weekend. Now onto the Totals and what I all found this last Saturday with my Trusty Ole Explorer XS!

I recovered a total of 11 Silver on Saturday. I was going to go out on Sunday but it was too wet out and it would have just made a mess out of the grass with all the mud due to all the rain that we have been getting lately, so I didn't get to try for 20 Silver this time. The Silver were 1 Washington Quarter dated 1960-d (very nice shape), 7 Mercury Dimes dated 1919-d,1929,1940,1941,1943-s,(2)1945-d (one being High Grade), and 3 Rosie's dated 1954-d,1959-d, and 1962-d. I found an Old Transit Token as well. This one is very Small and on the Cleaned Pics, the High Grade Merc is next to it to show for Size Comparison. Isn't the Merc a Beauty!!! :yikes:On the Front side of the Transit Token, it reads Good For One Fare and on the Back side reads Hyde Hub City Lines. Don't know if this has anything to do with Hub City, S.D. or not but did notice that there is a Town named that in S.D. so you never know. The rest of the finds will be in Part:2 coming up shortly. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH. Enjoy the Pics!:super:[attachment 105035 DirtySilver.jpg][attachment 105036 CleanedSilver.jpg][attachment 105037 DirtyTransitToken.jpg][attachment 105039 CleanedTransitTokenMercFront.jpg][attachment 105042 CleanedTransitTokenMercBack.jpg]

Here's the rest of the haul. I found a Whopping 42 Wheats on Saturday. Tim asked on the way home how many Wheats I had found and he told me he had found 22. I didn't know so I counted them up and shocked him when I told him 42 while I was chuckling about it. He couldn't believe it either! They are dated 20,26,26-d,35,35-d,(2)36,(2)36-d,36-s,37-d,41,41-d,42,(2)44-d,(2)44-s,45-d,(2)46,(4)46-d,46-s,47-d,(2)48-d,(4)49-d,(3)50-d,51-d,52-d,52-s,55-d,56-d, and 58-d. I also found 2 more Canadian Pennies, dated 1941 and 1942. There in the Pic with the Wheats. As for Misc. Finds, they were a Sterling Silver Ring with Amethyst, a Really Ugly Button, a Master Key, a Zippo that reads Chicago Northwestern Railway 1964 Safety Award Dakota Division, a Locket with Mary on it (nothing inside), an Older Salt and Pepper Shaker Lid, and a Junk Kids Monster Ring. Hope you liked the finds once again and thanks for viewing them. Good Luck and HH to you all.[attachment 105051 DirtyWheatsampCanadianCents.jpg][attachment 105052 CleanedWheatsampCanadianCents.jpg][attachment 105049 DirtyMisc..jpg][attachment 105050 CleanedMisc..jpg]

Lots of nice silver there James. Don't you just love those darn outdated Minelab Explorer XS's...................:hot: I won't mention that new machine everyone seems to be raving about and oh yeah, those that don't seem to be very happy about it. No need to when the XS seems to be still kicking you know what compared to all the other machines out there.............:wiggle: Keep up the great finds James and maybe I will have some nice stuff to post after our out of town hunt coming up the end of this month. HH buddy.

Eddie

Since I can't seem to find much due to the dry conditions down here at the opposite end of the nation (South Texas) I take great pleasure in enjoying your very successful outings. I'll just try to imagine I'm right there with you guys! Good hunting.

Charles

NICE HUNTING JAMES, LOOKS LIKE THE OLD XS IS STILL CLEANING OUT THE PARKS FOR YOU UP THERE  WOW 11 SILVER WHO NEEDS A NEW DETECTOR...NICE JOB...:beers:

JAMES THATS A CRAP LOAD OF WHEAT'S WOW :surprised: THE LIGHTER AND STUFF IS NICE 2 NICE JOB BUDDY ...PHIL.

If I had known at the time just how many I had, I would have stuck around until I got a roll of them but 42 is close enough. The Zippo was a neat find and it been awhile since I have found one of them. I really like the Sterling Ring myself and the Scan doesn't do it justice. It's an attractive Ring with the Gold and Silver Combo Coloring along with the Amethyst Stone. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH to you Phil on your next outing.:detecting:

The XS equipped with the Pro Coil has made my Detector more deadly on Silver and other Deep Keepers and I can't complain about the age of the machine for how many Coins and other great finds it has found me since 2001 so why change a good thing. If I had the extra money though, I would love to purchase an E-TRAC just to have a New Toy to play with but my XS seems to be working more than fine for me still so there really is no rush in getting a New Toy at the moment. It's all in knowing your machine and that's all I need to bring back goodies every outing. Thanks again and Good Luck and HH to you.

Too bad we haven't been able to hook up once again but hopefully next year. I'll try and get some research done for around your Lake Area this winter so when you do return, we will have some sites to go and check out. Good Luck and HH Chris back home.

I don't know if you have the Pro Coil yet but if you don't, this Coil would help you out in them Dry Conditions down South. This thing really can seek out Deep Coins in Dry Ground and also seperates better than the Stock Coils did. Either way, if you still have a tough time finding things down South, I'll try and keep the finds rolling in so you have an imaginary place to go and pretend to dig the Coins and other great finds that I, Tim, and Dale get when out detecting. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH to you on your next outing Charles.:detecting:

If the Explorer XS is still kickin' butt, then what is the purpose of a New Detector anyways when my XS gets the same Signals as the Se or E-TRAC for that matter? Even though the 2 machines are faster responding and might get a few Signals quicker than my XS in Trash, I still find plenty of Keepers on my outings to justify buying a New Machine. So as long as the XS keeps on tickin' and even if I do buy a New Detector, the XS isn't going anywhere except mounted on the Wall above all my great finds made with it. Glad you liked the finds Eddie and I hope you bring back a few Oldies on your Club Hunt. Good Luck and HH to you.
