Back with another go around of finds from my last outing. So let's get this puppy started!
Dale, Tim, and I decided to try a Park that Tim had been to before and had found a few Keepers at and Dale had recently visited pulling a Silver Quarter, a Merc, and a few Wheats on Tuesday, the 9th of September. This would be the first time I would see this Park and hunt it so I didn't really know what to expect but I was definitely looking forward to seeing this Park just so I would know what it looked like and have my crack at it to see how many Silver I could pull.
We arrived at the Park on Saturday Morning, just in time for it to start raining on us so we decided to wait until it slowed up and then start detecting. It must have rained for about 15-20 Minutes, and it was coming down hard enough to get pools of water to start standing next to trees and the Picnic Shelters. It finally slowed and we got the gear on and started hunting. We started to find a Wheat here and a Wheat there, but nothing great yet. Finally, Dale pulls up a Barber Dime and then he really started covering some ground. I wish you other detectorist's could see how fast Dale can cover ground because it is amazing! You'll look up and see him in one spot and the next minute, he will be 100' away from where you last saw him. I swear Dale can cover an Acre of Ground in 15 Minutes when Silver is found!
Anyways, it was time to kick it in High Gear and start working this Park in a Pattern to get the most out of it. The Park was Huge and I am sure there is tons more finds yet to be found at a later date. We hunted this 1st Park for most of the day and it was still giving up a few Keepers when we decided to go try a different Park. Tim had done exceptionally well here at the 1st Park and he got the Coin I was looking for. I guess I shouldn't think to hard about finding specific Coins since both Coins I was after was grabbed up by Tim and Dale. Tim found a Barber Quarter, the Coin I was looking for, a Silver Quarter, a Barber Dime, a couple Merc's and Rosie's, (8 Silver total) and a bunch of Wheats. Dale found an Old Canadian Quarter, a Barber Dime, and a few other Silver Dimes, (5 Silver I think?), a Good For Token, a V-Nickel, and a bunch of Wheats. I got a bunch of Wheats, 7 Merc's, 3 Rosie's, 2 Canadian Pennies, and an Old Transit Token, a Key, a Sterling Silver Ring with Amethyst, an Old Salt and Pepper Shaker Lid, a Large Ugly Button, a Kids Monster Ring, a Locket with Mary on it, and a Zippo Lighter.
Dale got lucky and found the Canadian Quarter, Token, Merc, and a few Wheats where Tim had worked a bit with the E-TRAC. Tim didn't try High Trash on the E-TRAC since this was were these Coins were being found at. He still is getting a feel of the detector and doesn't want to jump into all the different settings since it is doing great in Factory Mode so far. Tim got his Barber Quarter, Barber Dime, and a few other Coins here while Patterning this area well. Dale stuck around this area with his Explorer XS and hit it from different directions and was getting some nice finds, ones that I can't believe didn't give a Signal when Tim went through it. I even come walking back through this area and popped out a couple Wheats and a Merc that Dale had missed. Next time, I'm going to do the crawl with the Joey Coil instead of the Pro Coil to see if I can't wiggle out a few more Keepers from this spot in the Park. Tim said I should have put it on and told Dale that I would have pulled another 40 pieces of Silver from it which I got a chuckle out of so we will see when I go back, whenever that will be. Just thought I would share this surprise during this Park hunt.
Next was Park 2, which was fully occupied so that was out of the question. We were driving around and Dale thought he had seen another Park so we went looking for it. We stopped at another Park that has Houses built around the 30's it looked like and gave it a try since it was getting late in the day to try and find something else to hit. We started working it and there were hardly any Signals at all in this Park which was odd. I think there must have been some ground work or something since there wasn't much of Iron Signals either. I finally got lucky and popped out a Silver Quarter here. Then I found a Wheatie and a bit later another Wheatie. Tim was ready to go try a Country Church and so was I until Dale pulled out the Second Coin I was looking for, a Walking Liberty Half Dollar. We all agreed that we should just work this Park for the rest of the hunt time since it was a matter of only about an hour until it got dark out. We worked and worked and only found a few more Wheats but this Park is a City Block in size so who knows what and where the Keepers are at in this Park. Might have to go back sometime and try this Park again.
So this Saturday's Hunt was successful even though Tim got the Barber Quarter I was hoping to find and Dale got the Walking Liberty Half Dollar I was looking for also. I can't complain with what I found this Saturday so I'm satisfied with the results. Another Great Job on finds Dale and Tim and hope to continue making more finds together next weekend. Now onto the Totals and what I all found this last Saturday with my Trusty Ole Explorer XS!
I recovered a total of 11 Silver on Saturday. I was going to go out on Sunday but it was too wet out and it would have just made a mess out of the grass with all the mud due to all the rain that we have been getting lately, so I didn't get to try for 20 Silver this time. The Silver were 1 Washington Quarter dated 1960-d (very nice shape), 7 Mercury Dimes dated 1919-d,1929,1940,1941,1943-s,(2)1945-d (one being High Grade), and 3 Rosie's dated 1954-d,1959-d, and 1962-d. I found an Old Transit Token as well. This one is very Small and on the Cleaned Pics, the High Grade Merc is next to it to show for Size Comparison. Isn't the Merc a Beauty!!!
On the Front side of the Transit Token, it reads Good For One Fare and on the Back side reads Hyde Hub City Lines. Don't know if this has anything to do with Hub City, S.D. or not but did notice that there is a Town named that in S.D. so you never know. The rest of the finds will be in Part:2 coming up shortly. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH. Enjoy the Pics!
