Today I met with a group of treasure hunters in Columbus, Ohio for a scavenger hunt sponsored by our club, the Central Ohio Metal Detecting Assn (COMDA). For those who don't know, a scavenger hunt is where detectorists get points to win prizes by finding various items on a list...like pull tabs, screw caps, nails, bullets, clad coins, silver coins - pretty much everything counts. Normally I unload junk every chance I get. However I kept it all. It didn't take long for my pouch to get full. I managed to find 9 clad quarters, two wheat cents and other modern coins. My best finds were a corroded copper ring and a 1900 Barber dime in outstanding condition. It was only one inch deep. I even won a prize - a set of silver cuff links made from 1878 Seated Liberty quarters.
