Found my second seated this year. For the weekend I found the seated, a couple Mercs, a silver ring, and some clad.
I was about ready to give up Saturday morning because I found only 3 old pennies that are so corroded from farm chemicals I assume that you cannot even tell if they are wheats or indians, and I promised my wife I would take her shopping. On the way back to the car I found the 1918S while just walking regular speed and casually swinging the Etrac over a field, because I figured I might as well leave it on. Glad I did, it is in really nice shape with a hint of original luster left. Pretty lucky. Was using 15" W.O.T., and it had wore me out, but decided to hunt my way back over the stubble field as opposed to throwing the detector over the shoulder and just walking. Was not even hitting trash or anything as I went cross country, when I got the wild mixed signal from a WOT when it hits a relatively shallow target; about 4 inches. Later while she was shopping I snuck off and went to another park and found some clad and the sterling silver ring. It had me going because it was showing 12-47 at about 5 inches and I thought I had my first silver quarter for the year.
Decided I would go back this morning to the stubble field only because of that 1918S dime yesterday, and it is close to home. The only find today in that field was the 1883 Seated. I was using regular Etrac 11" coil because I was still recovering from the WOT. It is in pretty good shape spare a spot of chemical reaction on the obverse. I think it was on edge because it was hard to get a consistent signal although only at 5 inches. Was varying from 1-40 to 12-44 and got real spotty at 90 degrees.
Later in the day I dropped my wife off to let her do some shopping and back to that park, and it was packed because of the warm weather today. I went to a corner of the park away from the crowds and an area that also does not have much trash, or usually coins. Just went there to avoid the usual - ("here's your sign" by Bill Engdahl) - "you metal detecting?" Often tempted to say it is an electronic weed wacker, but I let that pass. Anyway I found the 1924S Merc in the middle of a nothing-going-on spot. It was about 7 inches and may have been on edge because the signal was real iffy and bounced from 1-42 to 13-47 and was hard to pin point. Pretty lucky again.
Also since I was messing with the photos I am including a pic of a 1916S I found last weekend. Always gets your heart going. Anyway, the S mint is very high up, small, and on an angle. Seems a bit odd so I thought I would show it. (All the coins are already in holders so there is a little glare - I had already washed them and put thim in holders when I decided I would go ahead and post the pictures in case others like to take a look).
