Found 1859 Indian Head this morning although it does not look it is in great shape.Pile of wheat pennys and Indians I have not had time to check.I only find men's gold rings I use to much Disc.I think there is about of 60 hours hunting here and I have been working 12 hours a day during week.House and Garden look like hell.Going out again tonight after I mow yard.I love my heads I win, tails I lose coin have had in pocket last 2 weeks really cleaned up.Everything in pictures was found with Safari and 8X6 coil except lead cow my 8X6 coil friends etrac.I had a young man of 96 show me place where all the KKK meetings were in my area I knew they existed did not know were they met til now really over grown will be a challenge. I got permission to hunt this fall his dad lost his wedding band there one night.I told him I would return it to him if I found it.I have found a lot of other neat junk one real nice cap gun but what you see is the best.Over 100 dollars in clad.

No I have been hunting in CO with 18 and below disc out.For a while I was hunting 12 and below disc and digging anything that repeated that was half way or deeper down the depth scale.Got tired of digging deep pulltabs and buffalo nickles my bank almost would not take them. This is with 6X8 in heavy trash. The one solid gold masonic with small diamond read 19 it was laying on top of ground. The other masonic and 22k ring read about 22 both were 4 inches down all 4 gold rings found around horse shoe pits.A lot of people will tell me that I am missing a lot with these settings that may be true but look what I am finding.I have picked up about 70 wheats and 30 Indians I will admit that I have only found 6 silver dimes but I hunted this area with safari and pro coil first. All these are extra and I have only hunted about 1/4 of junk area the deepest thing I have dug was Watch Key about 8 inches. Each area you will hunt will be different it is great that the safari can adjust to almost anything.

You're doing well. I wouldn't change a thing. Do you believe you are finding more with the 6"x8" coil versus the 11"DD coil?

Nice finds!!! Thanks for the numbers. I have not found a gold ring yet and was wondering what the numbers would be. Did find a gold mouth grill but it rang up a solid 10-11. Only found 1 IH and about a dozen wheaties since I started in Mar. Down here in St. Pete the pickins are slim. I am trying to expand my area of operations to increase my quality of finds.

No the 11 pro coil is my main coil I think it will go 3 inches more than the 6X8 I have yet to find a coin much deeper than 7 inches but that in itself is pretty impressive.I have dug fruit jar lids with the 6X8 over a foot deep with plenty of signal left and a couple of signals that I just gave up on because hole size could be an issue with caretaker.I still have a problem precise pinpointing with 11 Pro Coil the 6X8 is dead on.Bunker I am lucky to live in a area that dates back to the 1790s the main part of the house I live in dates back to the 1820s I have hunted a church that says 1804 above the door not 20 miles from my house also there were a lot of people and prosperous(More Coins)That 1804 church was hunted by local coin hunting expert and was cleaned out by him so I did not bother to hunt it till I bought a new detector Fisher 1260 I found a lot of old silver and the word got out that the new coin hunting (myself) had cleaned it out I also agreed.Four days after I got the safari I thought I would put it to a real test and take it to the hunted out 1804 church.3 bust dimes with holes 3 seated two with holes.4 large cents all had holes 1 merc 8 Indian heads all below 1890 all came in loud and clear all were about same depth about 6 to 8 inches as a matter of fact I did not find one clad coin.As soon as I find the time I am going to hunt with 6X8 and as soon as I can bypass some money from wife I am going to buy a SEF 12X15 and hunt it with that.Until the next great break through in detectors come along and I will hunt it again with it.7 members of my family coin hunted in the early 80's we were really getting disgusted it was getting so bad coin hunting a person was having trouble even finding 2 dollars in silver a day.

Prep 1957,

I appreciate your detailed narrative on finding these targets, because I'll be getting a new Safari in two weeks
and your information will be very important to me in the near future as well as help from others. I've been
using my Omega 8000 and do find a lot of coins but it still is a guessing game as to what I'm finding.
So, I hope the Safari will take some of the guesswork out of it concerning which signals are good.
Time will tell on that issue. This will be my most expensive detector yet, so I'm hoping like you to
find some goodies.
I'll start off with the standard 11"DD coil and see what happens.
You seem to be doing very well with the Safari which is encouraging for me.
Congratulations on your finds.

Give you a good time saving tip when you get to your hunting location turn on detector.Start in all metal program sweep area until you find spot that has no metal lift coil 12 inches above that clean spot and push noise cancel hold still for 20 seconds like book says. This is faster and accurate way to set noise cancel when you get your detector you will understand what I mean trying to find clean area using pinpoint to set noise cancel can be a challenge and cause you depth loss and time .Leave in all metal this is important do not try to ID your targets count how many you are hearing per sweep if it is more than 10 you are a real junk pile this info will tell you how to set your trash density,if you have a smaller coil go to it.Slow your sweep to a crawl to give your coil time to come back from masking out unwanted items due to all the junk.If the site is clean crank up the power, speed up your sweep, set your trash density low and get ready to dig deep. The only time I go to manual on sensitivity is in clean areas you figure what works for you.All of this before you even start hunting.

Prep 1957,

I appreciate your advice and will do as you said once I get my Safari
in about 2 weeks. Thank you.

Prep 1957,

Have you ever tried the Sun Ray Stealth X-5. I don't know which is better, the 8x6 or the x-5?
I'm having a problem using the Pro 11"DD coil when I get close to fences or under sports bleachers
or in playground areas because once I get too close to the steel structures, my 11" coil is not as effective
for finding goodies.

No I do not have X5 but but love 8X6 been thinking of getting X5 or 12X15 SEF I see a lot of users get that coil also instead of using pro coil.I can not say enough about 8X6 so har how good it is when I hunt with it it pinpoints so good Garret Pinpointer stays on my belt most of night.I hunt mostly trash areas may not get bigger coil at all just use 8X6 gets great depth.

Prep1957,

Thanks for this information on the 8"x6" coil. My Pro 11"DD coil works great in most situations. I just
have to get a smaller coil to get into those tight and high trash areas, because I may be missing some good stuff.
If I do buy a smaller coil, I guess it would be wise to buy the lower Safari shaft for convenience of putting on
different coils more easily.
From what I can see, you have made many great finds with your 8"x6" coil.

I had a problem getting the curls on my 8 x 6 cord to fit inside the shaft. The curls were too big. I finally cut a inch and a half long piece out of the bottom of the upper shaft, and now run the cord on the outside. It does not look as nice, but it works. Ive only used my safari a few hours, due to the cement like dry ground, but I like what I see with the 8x 6 coil. Go on the explorer forum, and read up on Bryces coil field tests.

I gave my nephew my old Garret Groundhog from the early 80's old TR/VLF machine he really caught the coinhunting fever I think he is ahead of me in silver coins so far this year. His grandma on the other side keeps finding him virgin yards to hunt 5 inches on a dime is about max on that old machine still looks like new.Dug out my old 6DB hip mount going to give him this weekend works good still .He had $2.60 silver day out of one yard about 3 weeks ago.I guess size really doesn't matter it is location.I got an old Red Baron and Big Bud laying around in box somewhere told my nephews buddies that they could use the machines but they had to pay me there first 10 dollars face value in silver before they would own them they agreed. This should be interesting. All these machines have 8 inch or less coils on them sometimes you just have to go back to basics.

Prep1957,

After reading your comments and looking at your finds using your 8"x6" sef coil,
I decided to order one of those coils for myself.
I need one to get into tight places, under sports bleachers, near walls and fences
and high trash areas.
Maybe finding small gold Jewelry on the Coeur D' Alene, Idaho Beach below.

I use to use my 1266x to scrape up weekend clad because it would take to long to pinpoint with pro coil on safari, with 8X6 it is good clad scraper pinpoints great fast recovery. If I had your beach I would buy a gold detector my safari does not really detect that small of gold it really is pretty good to a point.Black hills gold small bands are really tough. When I was at Corolla,NC I put the 6X8 on because my shoulder was hurting started to find small silver backs of ear rings small silver charms but not very deep.Air tested a lot of small gold when I got home some read as low as -3.My great grandma's ring with 1.7 caret diamond small band reads +1 and air tests to 5 inches max.My wife's thin small gold chains forget it.I am looking for good beach detector now have no Idea what to buy checking out Internet sites to see what everyone else is using.Safari is best fish hook detector I have ever owned bobby pins also.If you want small gold I would hunt all metal -3 and above with Safari.to much work for me unless it is really clean beach.I really like beach hunting easy digging don't have to worry about your plugs people are nice unlimited detector hunting area to bad I waited til my 50's to try it.

I have a Gold Bug ( Cabellas model ) and it works great on gold, but since I just got my
new Safari I want to spend as much time with it with the future 8x6 coil. So, I will use the
all metal mode, with some disc., because the beach is not that clean and hopefully
find some gold items.
The Safari compared to the Gold Bug takes some of the guesswork out of what the
targets are.
I'm 66 years old and in good shape, so when my right arm gets tired from swinging
the Safari, I switch over to my left arm for a few minutes and that is why I can keep
swinging for 8 hours at a stretch. Photo below shows the Coeur D' Alene, Idaho
Resort and Beaches.
