Setting depth on Safari

Set your sensitivity as high as you can without the detector going crazy and start swinging.
Run it in all metal if you can stand all the noise. Gary

I have a problem with that suggestion. If you run in auto on sensitivity/high. You end up getting these signals that are so deep that are not suitable for digging in all areas. Such as a park or someones lawn. The recovery hole get s to be enormous. I don't care how good you are you cant dig a 18 inch deep hole 3 inches wide. At least I can't. Therefore if I am hunting in these conditions I run at about 12 sens. and this works great to elimiunate these ugly holes in populated areas where people are looking over your shoulder at you the whole time. Just food for thought

I run mine in auto sens, noise cancel with the coil on the ground or wet/dry sand.

Using coin/jewelry and the above process, I was standing in knee deep water in Galveston this weekend and found a dime at 8 inches. Came in a clear 37. Followed up by 2 quarters (3:geek:. One was 1964.

Good luck.
Tony

Max Depth-Ground cancel every hundred feet or 1/2 hour.Ground cancel at the height that you will be hunting if you can scrub the ground do so.If you are hunting in little or no trash hunt in low setting.Hunt in conductive with no Icons at 0 disc will speed up response time does not help with depth and you really will not be picking up much more junk targets.Sensitivity manual as hot as you can handle the chatter and falsing drop 2 numbers. do this every hour.Auto sensitivity is pretty good but I have seen on two occasion that a silver dime both Barbers disappeared when I went to auto/sensitivity both dimes were at 9 inches laying flat.Use pro coil it will go deep.As for hunting in trash buy Andy's book I am going to.

So others don't get confused:
Ground cancel is automatic on the Safari and you can not manually adjust it. You can noise cancel. Noise cancel and ground cancel are not the same thing.

Noise cancel in the the first place in my opinion is the biggest false advertising that minelab invented. What it does is select from the 28 freq that they in there advertising there detector uses which like most people think they are using all 28 when they are hunting and coverts these in to 11 sets of freq. When you noise cancel it picks one of these sets.there are sets of these frequency's you may never use if you hunt in the same area in your life.No more than 3 freq. are used at any one time while you hunt.If you are in an area that you know has EMI it will decide for you what set of freq to best run the detector but not fine tune to find the deepest coin in most cases does pretty good. But you can walk a distance away from EMI do a noise cancel then walk back in to EMI area and find coins that other Etrac and Safari users missed the detector may be a little erratic but you will gain more depth with a different set of freq. sometimes. That is why other brand detector that can adjust manually Freq,Ground Cancel, will out perform minelabs in city's,under power line, radio stations,RC car, airplane fields, etc. it all depends when you do your noise cancel and what is on when you do it.The only way I found to check what freq you are in is buying freq counter I borrowed one from a friend who is Ham Radio Operator.I am hearing on other posts that Minelab was bought out and under new ownership does anyone know if this is true?I would like to thank Bigolhorns for clearing up confusion that I caused and the new confusion that I caused I just have too many hobbies and overlook details. If anyone has any tidbits on better detector or minelab gossip I would love to hear.
