Sharing sites or keeping them to yourself

I feel a little wonky about a recent exchange on another site. An individual wants to do a site reciprocation, take me to yours and then we'll go to mine, about six or seven hundred miles away, not exactly convenient. Anyway, I don't want to. I want one more season on this site that I researched and located by myself. Then I'm willing to tell anybody about were it is precisely located. Now I'm the bad guy because another/other members would do the exchange. Is that selfish/hard hearted of me, or just normal detecting etiquette? There are limited numbers of this specific type of site with limited numbers of relics available. When they are gone, they are gone. As I said, I feel a little ill at ease about all this. But, tough coa coa puffs. No one took me by the hand and spoon fed any sites to me. Do you have sites that you just wont share?

It's your site, you found it and if you don't want to share it, that's your right, to heck with what others may say. I don't currently or in the past have had such sites, but if I did, I'd hunt them in whatever fashion suited me, not some other guy you evidently don't even know.

If it's a buddy that can keep a secret, and you're comfortable with sharing it then go for it. Otherwise in my book keep it to yourself, and have fun with it. To me it's like finding that great little fishing hole that no one else knows about. If you want to keep it a nice little fishing hole, then you keep your mouth shut, and insist on blindfolding anyone you choose to share it with. :) You put the research and effort into it so you should also reap the reward

You put in all the research and did all the work and you deserve the harvest. Unless he or she is your best buddy ever, keep it to yourself. You would not work all week and turn your paycheck over to some stranger and that applies to your site, also.

Heres my feelings on sharing sites: Don't do it, especially on this or any other forum!! I have nothing against this forum or any other forum on Findmall, but lets face it, there are many people watching this forum just looking for someone to name a place near where they live. They'll steal your spot as soon as they get the chance.

I did that once, and all it did is get me kicked off the site. the person felt that he could use it anytime he wanted once i took him the first time, and left holes, ect. If it was a good friend, i may, if i was starting a new site, but not one i have already been producing good finds.

It SHOU,LD be only a close, trusted friend for ANY site. I learned this as a member of a treasure club. EVERY site the members confided was left haggard and usually the members went there on the sly, trying to get ahead of others. It was an awful lesson in human nature.

Keep it to yourself. It's never hunted out! Even my nephew hunted one of my sites before me after I told him that "I" got permission. I was hot! He now is on his own.

If you have a good productive site keep it to yourself. Too many problems with sharing it unless it's with a best friend ( you can trust ) or a close family member.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's your site that you researched , and if you want more time to
check it out, I'd do it and not give it a second thought.
They still have their site that they can hunt in the meantime, and you don't have
access to it. So I'd call it a draw. I'm pretty much a lone hunter, and I readily
admit being a bit greedy when it comes to places I might want to hunt.
:nopity:

I don't particularly want extra people around finding half the stuff I would have found
myself if I was alone. And knowing my luck, the one great find of the site that I
would be interested in would be found... by the other guy... groan..

Another thing.. the property is often private, and once you let the secret out, everyone
and their sisters will be wanted to give it a go at later dates. This will not always sit well
with the property owners, so that's another thing to consider.. Or if say it's a historical spot
that you don't want to see damaged by the masses..

I let just one guy come to my lake to fish. I told him that I didn't let anyone fish but he could if he wanted. He came out 2 times by himself and stayed about 2 hours each time. One Saturday morning I woke up to some noise about 7am. I got dressed and went to see what was going on. There was a car and truck parked by my lake. By the time I got out my door there were 7 people out with their poles. I asked what they were doing? They said that Roger told them about this place to go fishing. That's right Roger wasn't even there! I told them all to leave. Since then I have a big sign at my gate. It says if your weren't invited by me to turn around and leave. I'm not friends with Roger any more. So if it's a really good spot - keep it to yourself as I already said in another post. Believe me someone will screw it up for you.

You are fine, rest easy.
There was a man who found a 20 + pound rock bearing mucho gold (lots). He had to split with 5 others. There were many posters who were down right indignant that the finder would not post the final take. As if it was any of their concern.

The bottom line here is you did the work and many are either incapable or to lazy to find their own honey holes. They are also too rude to... Well, not be jerks.

Mums the word.

Sharing information like that, especially on the net is a recipe for disaster; most particularly for you! As there are a lot of folk that troll the forums for such information, using your hard work at researching a site and then hitting it hard before you get the chance to get near it. If you like giving up sites, then posting it on the net would be one of the fastest ways of having it hunted out. Share you finds,; not your locations.
I did share a honey hole with werewolf (he comes on this forum from time to time) at Christmas. We had a great time, but I never at any point put that location publicly on the web.

Noone in the club i belong to will get real specific about
spots they have found on thier own and I dont get offended
at that..And i only have one spot that i REALLY want to
keep to myself.. evn tho its its in plain view all the time
people dont go there because they assume its off limits
All it took was a phone call and I have it all to myself
