What an incredible weekend!! Rob and I went to a place we have detected several times in the past and we have had pretty good success with some wheats and silver and vintage type relics.
For some reason, this weekend here was phenomenal for us both. 2 silvers on Saturday and 6 on Sunday!! Plus......some other neat rescues.
However, I must share the "big silver find" story. After I found the Barber dime and Mercury dime...Rob meandered over my way since the "silver fish were biting" there. He has the magic touch because about 3 steps from where I landed the dyanmic duo .... so did he!!! A Walker and a Stander in the Same hole!! What????!!! He was so excited about the Walker he didn't notice the SLQ still in the hole!! I had to say look ....there's another coin. What a find for him!!!
What is very special about Rob is that he is deaf. He has an attachment to his Etrac that is called a Virbra-phone. It transmits the signals into vibrations so he can feel when he is over a target. He is able to check out the numbers visually obviously and he also uses the Garrett Pro-pointer which vibrates as well. He is a master at finding coins. In the past year, he has probably rescued about 100 silver coins!!! He teaches me so much and we feel that whatever each other finds is "our finds". So technically, the walker and stander are mine too... right?? HA HA.
Now for the Ship Ha'penny - You were waiting for that one huh? I told one of my British friends that I found a Canadian penny about the size of a quarter. He said are you sure it isn't a half penny? I never even knew there was one. I just assumed it was a Canadian penny. Nope it's what they refer to as a Ship Ha'penny because it has a beautiful ship on the back and it's a half cent. I just though this was a very cool find. Very unusual for me anyway. A first.
Saturday Finds (Betty): Clad, wheats, 1966 ship ha'penny, and a 1957 quarter!!
Saturday Finds (Rob): Clad, wheats, and a 1943 silver war nickel!! Oh and a class ring we thought was going to be a real special find but it's just a John Belushi class ring as it only says "High School" on it kind of like his "College" shirt in Animal House. ha ha ha
Sunday Finds (Betty): Clad, 1918 wheat penny, an awesome eagle miltary button that I just love (Horstmann/Philadelphia) in beautiful shape (1893-1935), a1916 (no D) Merc, a 1926 Merc, an 1893 Barber dime and some misc items (one being a vintage ponds cream jar still intact). Oh and some type of item maybe sterling silver with fleur de lis pattern on it. Not sure what it is.
Sunday Finds (Rob): Clad, 1956 Rosie, No date SLQ, and the queen herself - a 1945 Walker half dollar. Wow - is she B-E-A-utiful!!! It's hard to take your eyes off it.
What a great weekend we will never forget...I love creating these kinds of memories together!!
Here are some pics - I did a before and after cleaning picture. Whoa!!
