Short Hunt Nets a Little Lead And A Little Silver

Went out to my favorite "hunted out" field today. Same old story...been hunted by dozens for decades and still gives it up when you're willing to work for it. I had the Exelerator 12.5" coil on the Ex2 and was grid-walking the large and freshly mowed field. My first pull was a '41 Merc, which is cool because I've snagged MANY bullets and buttons in this field over the years but darn few coins. Like 1 large cent, 1 Merc, and 1 Barber dime. And a wheat or two. The coins here are few. And yet, we all managed to miss this one somehow. Not today. :) I also got 2 musket balls and a 3-ringer mini. I probably covered about half of the field. I know there are a few more good digs there.

Here are a few pics:

First signal...looking good!

Out pops a merc...a WELL WORN and probably "fertilizered" Merc.

She ain't pretty, but she's MINE.

Next dig was a musket ball, followed by another a little while later...

Classic 3-ringer (or zinc penny) reading, but I knew...

And a nice one she is...

Got to love the old history behind every bullet that you dig! And the Merc was a nice bonus also. Can't complain about those finds at all. WTG and hope you have more success at that field!

Were you using the excelerator coil before??
The 12.5 goes deep

But have you tried the 14" Excelerator Coil
Get out the Back Hoe!
You will be surprised at what you've missed going over the same areas again
There is a 30 day waiting period on 14" coil - High Demand at Kelli co

Nice finds again - I'm still looking for my first Merc.
Gonna throw a gold and ice dance when one pops out!!

Grid it and dig it

I've used the Excelerator out there twice before and found some deep and small buttons. The stock coil does almost as well on depth but of course gets less coverage per sweep. I don't have the 14 but it would be interesting to see what came up with it. The field has been carefully gridded MANY times by many folks. I've hit it with a Garrett 750 several times, with a DFX several times, with a CZ-70 dozens of times, with a Sovereign Elite several times, a Quattro a few times, and the Explorer II a few times. It usually gives up SOMETHING but it is possible to grid it for and hour or two and get NOTHING. It's as close to "hunted out" as they come but at the same time, proof that no site is EVER truly hunted out.
