I got out Wednesday and Thursday after work for a short time and only got a few finds. I wanted to see if I could get anything from the Old Racetrack in my town, which is now a Golf Course. I have pulled a lot of Old Coins in past years but they are getting tougher to find due to fill being added last year and possibly other dirt work done in the past I don't know about. The Track is still visible on 3 sides of it and I know there has to be some Super Deep Coins out of the reach for the Explorer but I still get the urge to try and get lucky. Even though I didn't find a vast amount of finds during these 2 outings, I still like going back to the place because in the back of my mind I still say "could this be the day I get lucky and start hitting them one after another?". It's a huge area to cover so there still has to be somewhere that yields a few Oldies for me to retrieve. There was once a Brick School House on one side of the Golf Course and there was also a Play Day held every year where lots of people came to have fun. There were also 2 Ball Diamonds that I have heard about so this was a very active site at one point in time. I just wish that it was still all original but I am sure there has been lots of dirt work done in the past burying lots of Old Coins so Deep that it will take one heck of a machine to find them. But maybe someday that machine will be on the market and I can start making them finds that I know have to be out there. Anyways, let's get to it.
Dale and I hunted together on Wednesday after I got off of work since he wanted to try and get some Barber but that didn't happen for him. All he got were 2 Silver Roosevelt's which is better than Crusty Wheaties. 1 of the Rosie's was down a full 10" Deep, so there is definitely some dirt work done in certain areas. As for my finds, they were pretty meager but I am happy that I did find a few more from the Old Horse track to add to the collection. They consisted of only 6 Coins but it's 6 Coins I will proudly post and proudly take anytime. I found 1 Barber Dime and it is dated 1897-s. This was about 6" Deep and I had Dale go over the Target and he knew right away that it was Silver and most likely Barber. I dug it and told him that it was a Barber Dime and what the date was and he wanted to know what kind of shape it was in. I couldn't tell him then but when I dropped off my gear at home, I rinsed it and found it to be a worn Barber and then showed it to him on the way out to Rick's that night. It is a better Date and I knew that when I found it since I got one last year in higher grade and it books for $120. This one is more like G-4 and worth $18 but I am happy to add it to the collection. I also found 1 Indian Head that was next to a Pine Tree that was removed. It was about 6" Deep and it is dated 1903. I also got 4 Wheaties and they are dated 1911,1921-s,1929-d, and 1953-d.
As for Dale's finds on Wednesday, he was only able to recover 2 Silver Roosevelt Dimes but Silver's Silver and it's better than a Crusty Wheatie. That does it for this short post. I hope you all are getting out and making some nice finds while the weather is nice. It won't be too long and most of us will be in a Deep Freeze. Good Luck and HH to you all and thanks to you all that view my posts.
