shotshell collection

I have quite a few shotgun shells now and figured I would list them for anyone interested in looking through them to see if there are any odd or rare ones they havn't seen many before. If you know anything about any given ones, feel free to post and specify which one you're referring to. I will be adding more pictures, these are just a few from my collection. Also listed here are my 3 full brass casing shotgun shells. One is complete and the other two are missing part of the front end from corrosion. The first two say Winchester, No 10 & No 12 respectively. The third one I couldn't make out what it has on it.

Here are the rest of them for now, I am finding more all the time. A few were bent and when I tried to straighten them they just snapped in half so I tossed them out. There is one in these pics that has "W.R.A. Co Rival No 12" which I believe is a full brass casing from the research I did on that one quite awhile back. If so, obviously the casing has corroded away. 2 of the 3 full brass casings I have in the first post are badly corroded and this one could easily be similar and I wouldn't know it. Hopefully someone knows if that is correct or not.
Also notable is the .410 - 12m/m shell which is the only one I have found that said 12mm. I usually toss the .410 shells out but I should probably start saving them too.

In my first post there is a shell in the upper right of one of the pics which I found this image to help with the age. On the box it says Patented 1900 & 1903. But at >>>--->THIS site it says Defiance shotshells were made in the 1920's. And HERE <----<<< is a good site for shotshell head stamp reference.

You have a great collection there! Shotshell heads are my main area of research and collecting. You have some great headstamps there! I would love to see a pic of the side of the WRA Rival. Winchester did make both all brass and paper varieties of the Rival line. Your Ace Gambles is one that is not seen very often either. If you have age questions on any particular ones, let me know. I don't want to post a bunch of ages/dates if it is research that you have already done and don't need, but I can get you pretty accurate info on most of your headstamps.

I dig old ones up all the time in the woods here in NJ. Never thought people had collections. Are any valuable even when dug up?

I doubt it. I just decided to keep them since sometimes I have a silver dry streak or otherwise poor finds for awhile and collecting these adds a bit of curiosity. Even though you dig a lot of these, finding one that you havn't dug before almost makes up for not finding silver, ect. LOL There are some that are much more common and then there is the one of a kind within the collection. Those are interesting at least and when your bored it provides something to research. Most of them can be dated to a certain time period.

I also have quite a few rimfire cartridges in lots of different calibers that were made before centerfire. I have yet to find a pin fire shell, the type with a pin sticking out of the side of the cartridge.

Many years ago I found a shotgun shell that had the pin sticking out the side. I didn't keep it.

I have a collection that is numbering near 5,000 by now. No they are not valuable. I doubt that there are a dozen different shotshell heads out there that have a value of $5.00. Truthfully, most will not even have "dirty brass" value as they are steel lined.
