Should I Get an SE???

I have pretty much concluded that the Excalibur is the best all-around water machine. I have tried most water detectors and have always found by far, the most gold with Excaliburs. So I recently upgraded to an 800 and 1000 Excalibur IIs. For general land hunting I have also tried many detectors with likes and dislikes. If I do not like a particular machine, I give it the boot! I have NOT tried an Explorer. For one the price, but mainly perhaps, the talk of poor balance and weight?

I have owned the Garrett 2500 and Whites DFX and MXT. Also the Fisher CZ70 Pro... and a bunch of others. But perhaps the Explorer SE is really the best of the best? I tried and like Sovereigns, but think I would prefer more target information on a land machine? I know the Excalibur loves gold. So perhaps the SE too?

I like things simple, but am NOT shy of metal detecting concepts and settings. I am willing to learn and experiment with adjustments for better performance. So, SE owners, should I purchase an SE for general land and beach treasure hunting? Would you buy the SE again? Thanks, CC.

I've had my SE for about a year and LOVE IT. The learning curve takes some time but I have found the performance fantastic. I detect whenever possible and don't think the extra weight is a problem. With time you will develop some programs that work well for you. I had two other Minelab fanatics help me with mine. Both have a lot of years of detecting experience and both have made incredible finds. Both told me the same thing. You still have to swing the coil over the target. The SE will give you a better opportunity to find it.

The weight should not be a concern as you have used the Garrett 2500 and a few other heavy machines.
Quality is one of the major reasons that I like the Explorers. Can't beat the quality.
As far as performance, that is not an issue either. I run in all metal with the appropriate settings and keep it simple. My finds speak for themselves.
As do everyone Else's on this forum.

I'm new to metal detecting, but from what I have heard and read is the Minelab Excalibur II one of the best detectors for beach/surf and regular conditions? I'm in Florida so I'm looking for the best quality one for beach areas with high salt content first. Also, I noticed they come with an 8" or 10" coil. What is the difference between the two? Thank you!

i just purchased mine from cabellas in Lacey Washington. I'll tell you what, I have absolutely no experience in metal detecting and in my backyard i found in twenty minutes a steel pie pan (which said overload and scared the heck out of me) I found two coke cans, I found a Rainer beer can and I found a hammer head with a rotted handle. I am so excited to go find good stuff I cant wait.
Before I purchased this Mine lab Explorer Se I thought to myself- "Self, If you buy a Bounty Hunter, Will you be Happy?" and I said No, I will want something Better. So When I was looking at the Qhattro and the explorer I again said to myself, you may regret this but pay more for the explorer and you will have no regrets that you did not get the best on the market. And so i did. I have no regrets That I purchased the finest Metal detector made on the market today. I CANT WAIT TO PASTE MY FIRST GOOD FIND ON THIS FINE FORUM AS I HAVE BEEN OGLING OVER ALL YOUR GUYS'S FINDS.

Ya, I love Explorer, mainly because of the great quality and performance..
and i dont think that the weight is a problem...it works perfectly fine to me as...
I am extremely happy with SE..I would recommend anyone to have it..."my opinion"

Thanks all for your help and good advice. I ordered an SE. I also ordered a Coiltek 8.5" x 11.5" Platypus coil. In the past I have liked Coiltek coils, and like the looks of the Platypus. Next on my want list will be WOT and Joey coils. I got the Swingy-Thingy too. I guess I will have to get used to detecting at a slower controlled pace? That is easy to do underwater with Excaliburs because of H2O resistance. On land though, I am used to MXT sweep speed. But I will have to re-train myself. That is OK because I believe the finds quality should go up! Gold, Silver and Platinum!!!

From my positive experience with Excaliburs, I get a feeling the SE will be the best all-around land treasure machine for me. The only thing left, and that I have my eye on someday is a 4000!

I am going on a shallow water treasure hunting vacation to the Caribbean. When I get back, the SE will be here. I'm sure I will have some Explorer questions to ask/post here. CC.
