Sidewalk tearout day 2......more goodies....

Ok today I went back to the sidewalk tearouts where I was at yesterday. Today I covered the exact same sidewalks but this time I did the dirt that was shoved around on the side. Not too bad...bunch of wheats again. 16 to be exact, oldest was 1916, got one buffalo 1923, one silver dime 1934, skeleton key, Presidential token, conterfeit gold coin..lol, toy car, bullet, an old copper broach missing the stone.

I was shocked that many wheats, and only one nickel and one dime....odd......that was silver #121 for the year.

In two hunts that sidewalk tearout produced:

30 wheats
2 indians
1 buffalo
3 silver dimes
1 token
2 keys
old broach
1 marble
toy car

sidewalks normally produce decent finds for me, but you have to go slow, lots of iron, at least the ones I have hunted. I ran TTF on my etrac.

2 blocks.........well maybe not even 2...more like 1.5. This is a VERY small town, I'd say it was in front of about 8 houses on each side, so 16 houses total.

Awesome Terry. Thanks for the pictures man!

Just fantastic, what a producing strip.

You've found a real hot spot - good job !

Do you know where are they trucking the dirt to from the sidewalk tear out ???
When they dump the dirt ( and maybe even grade it out ) - it's possible you could find some more old coins !

Good luck ! --- Mark

in this town luckily they did NOT dig down, they just broke up the sidewalk and hauled it away. Most tearouts I go to, they dig way too deep and they haul away all the goodies! That is why I think I found so much at this one

Not odd or surprising. I find in high foot traffic areas the penny count goes way up. People tend to see and pick up the shiny goodies while the coppers blend in and go undetected.
I work at a 285 site campground and occasionally detect there. Off the beaten path your more apt to find nickles, dimes, quarters. On the campsites, nothing but pennies. People see and pick up the shiny stuff. If they would only had done that with pull tabs.

You are lucky! I have also had the chance this summer to detect 2 blocks of an old 1860's town and was it ever disappointing. Found probably a dozen wheaties 1909-1956, 1Indian,2 barber quarters, 1merc dime, 6 dimes. The oldest being an 1880 Canadian dime, The dates show that it should be there but it is not.

Hey G4E ...thats a fine day out on the sidewalk ;)

Those are some great finds! Did you have any overly interested locals watching and asking questions?

I always seem to be unable to get there when the work is going on or I find out about it after the neighborhood kid has already carved his name in the drying cement and the ground is sealed up for another fifty years.
However, recently that proverbial little birdy told me about some landscape changes in my area that I am hoping to be the first to detect since the ground underneath hasn't been disturbed since at least the late forties.

no, I didn't have a single personal come out to talk to me. Odd, normally when I hunt sidewalks and curb strips people come to chat, but not in this town.
