I couldn't stand the cabin fever anymore. Weather has been miserable for a while.... I drove through my favorite park last weekend while I was out running some errands and I spied some interesting construction work. The ground was frozen, but some work was done out in a patch of woods where they cleared out a lot of underbrush and honeysuckle thickets. I couldn't hunt that day but I went back a couple days later in the 20 degree cold with a stiff wind. I knew that the ground in the woods wouldn't be frozen that bad, and I would be out of the wind. I wanted to see if I could do any good in a section of ground where no detector had been over in decades. The signals were sparse, but what I did get blew my ears out - nice loud solid silver hits, something that is very rare anymore in this park. I managed a silver quarter, 3 mercs, 1 wheatie, and 4 clad coins in an hour. Also found a nice old brass padlock - the first intact one I've found in a LONG time. I always seem to find pieces of them or ones missing the hasp, but this one came out whole. I had a thick hard crust on it that took 2 hours to scrape off, but the results are nice.
More snow coming tomorrow.... this is the coldest February I can remember....think SPRING!..............HH, Mike.
