I hit the woods early this morning and although it was a little chilly starting off right at 7:30, all it took was my 1st silver right off to burn off the chill. Within fifteen minutes of starting out, I got a somewhat bouncy 80-85 reading. O.K., a clad quarter is alright, I thought, and dug a about a 5" deep clod. Looked down in the hole and saw the corner of a silver coin near the bottom of the hole and a little off to the side, partially on edge. A 44d Washington made for a good start. Being on edge made it bounce a little. I began working out in a circle from the Washington quarter find and about 10' away I got a lock on 90-91 reading. No way I thought, but fortunately, I was wrong. A nice 43d Walking Lady half came to light. Worked out a little further and got a nice sounding lock on 74 reading and dug my 3rd silver, a 35 Mercury dime. It has been a while since my first 3 dug targets were all silver and while I have dug a goodly number of halves over the years, never in my now 39 years of detecting have I recovered 2 silver halves in one week. Earlier this week I got the 1907d Barber half. That ended up being all the silver for my outing, but did recover a nice 1911 Wheat cent, a piece of something that says Memphis Tenn with a 1936 date on it and also dug a 3 Merry Widows condom container. These are some of the earliest 20th century condoms made and while the container did contain 3 condoms, the "3 Merry Widows" actually stands for the the ladies, Agnes, Mabel and Beckie, that mad them. Some containers have their names on the front, but mine doesn't. One of my hunting buddies found the same container last month. The LTD was set up in B P mode, sen. of 85, 4 disc. and 3h tones.
