silver umax depth averages

to all you tesoro silver umax owners just trying to recieve input on the average depth of findings especially old coins, I know i've done exceptionally with mine and I don't think i could ever part with it just really love it and i aquired a 12 x 10 coil for it to which i only got to use once and i think i will get the 4" inch for it as well to snipe out surface stuff.

Places vary from spot to spot. But for my area, overall seems like I get most of my silver I'd say 4 - 5 inch range. Within the capability of anything I got. So here, unless I get away from my spots, machine depth isn't always the major concern. I have one place I been hunting on/off for years and I don't think I got any coins more than 4 inches deep, most are around 3 inches except fresh clad. Then in another, most coins are over 6 inches. There used to be sod so I don't know how much was topped. Most of my spots are trashy, so I get most use with 5.75 coil. Then I'll use the stock on a few occasions and cleaner grounds. I do have a couple areas where the targets are deep outside of town, but then I generally take other machines.
Read more than just this forum that the 12 x 10 on the Silver uMax is a good'n and has almost convinced me getting that coil. But I seem to use the Silver close to home as one of my turn on and go beep and dig.

One strange thing I noticed is the depth under the swings with the metal braces on them-I have the sensitivity turned all the way down and still have to move the swings or I'll pick up the seats at 2 feet. The CZ was the only other machine I had that problem with. No telling how deep it would pick up a large object. I really fell in love with it when I noticed that battery check didn't wake up the neighborhood-I would turn on my Silver Sabre, the battery check would start beeping, and all the dogs in the neighborhood started barking. It messed up on me and my dealer made me a trade for the Silver umax and when I turned it on, I instantly fell in love with the soft tone and self-activated battery check. The one thing that I have learned about depth with the Silver umax is that in some grounds, when you slow the sweep speed down, the depth increases because the Silver has time to adjust to the ground better.

Got the 4" concentric and it is a keeper. Steel benches, jungle gyms, and fences are no match for the
silver/4" combo.

I also have the 4" coil-but I am saving for the 5.75" coil. I feel that you would then have the best of both worlds-a little more coverage and depth as well as target separation. The 4" coil is great for confined trash areas, but slower than Christmas at some sites.

Was there a very noticeable loss of depth with the 4 inch coil?
I know the 5.75 does pretty good.

Yeah, there's a bit of loss, but I think it's due more to the smaller cone of detection and the patience required to overlap such a small detection beam. Most of the finds are in the 3-4" range, but my Silver picked up a screwcap at about 6" with a good strong signal. From the past postings, I understand the 5.75" coil has depths about the same as the 8" coil, thus my interest.

Finding the swing seats with the Silver..I have been wondering if the bowl shape of the ground reflects the signal upwards...Always figure I am going to test those metal swing seats out in the air, always forget..Maybe some one will remember and see if they can be detected at the same distance sideways . Whenever I use my Ace 250 at the schooyards and tot lots, I notice I can get under the swings better without signal-but the Silver umax at it's LOWEST setting picks them up and I just have to move the swings to detect under them. A couple of days ago I was hunting a tot lot at a forgotten spot with the Ace at #3 sensitivity and just out of curiosity I went over it with the Silver at is lowest setting and found a nickel at 4" the Ace missed and a couple of others around the 4" level. Now, out of fairness, I can detect them, but I have to have the Sens. at LEAST #4 on the Ace and I have a bad habit of not overlapping as good with the Ace because the size of the coil fools you into thinking it's a wider scan. Actually, the Ace is a concentric coil and the "sweet spot" is much smaller than the length (9") of the coil suggests. But that Silver umax-man o man-if it had at least TONE ID, it would be the ONLY machine I would want. And ALL Tesoro would have to do is have a two-tone ID with a width control that would let the tabs split the tones at tab level. That's why my heart starts racing whenever I see a Golden Umax post!

well there sling shot i just bought a brand new golden and can't wait til spring to try it the thing i've noticed my silver air tests a little better than golden
