Single number readout?

Since I am coming from an Excal2, and looking for a new land machine to last me many years, and since it seems the Fe portion of the meter just became useless from listening to the posts here, would the Sov GT with Co meter be the right choice for me? I was really wanting a machine with a true meter with depth information, sensitivity readout, and all that other cool INFORMATION that comes from having a real meter, but from what I see here the E-12 isn't it. If it is going to report Fe 12 all the time, why even display the Fe? I am also hearing "slow response time" when folks are referencing the SE Pro. How slow? Is it a problem? I hunt with the Excal2 in PP (true all metal), barely a threshold, and listen for the minute threshold increase when I sweep a deep target. Can I still hunt that way with either the SE Pro, or the E-12? Or am I just out walking the detector waiting for it to bark, like my GTP 1350? Do either of the Mine labs have TRUE All Metal, or just motion discriminate, with nothing notched out? This might be a can of worms post, but I really want to know, and I don't know anyone else that detects, much less anyone with a thousand dollar plus machine to just try for myself. HH Joe

Give it a little more time. I was just reading the manual and it say's that in ferrous you can use 2 or 4 tones so you are still going to get low to high tones unless I am not understanding something. It look's to me like in AM/ferrous iron will still be a low blatt and silver will be a high tone, nickles and buttons will be a medium tone. I'm not sure I see a problem especially if it does not false on iron as much as the SE.

Not having one yet I am not sure of this and I don't quite understand what the grip is that some have about the ferrous tones. I'd like a pithy explaination of the problem. I don't see why 4 tones in ferrous isn't enough, maybe i'm missing something. I mean, you hear a good tone then check the screen crosshairs and numbers. I like that you can see the numbers in smartscreen, you don't have to switch to digital to see them. I like the accept/reject button too.

All that said... the SovGT is a killer machine with the 180 meter. I think the ETrac will prove to be an awesome machine once people work with it a little longer. I really doubt ML is going to do any software changes in the near future though, that would really surprise me.

The E-12 is what folks on here have dubbed the E-Trac since it seems to read most coins incorrectly at Fe 12. If it wont read the iron value correctly, then why bother reporting it? HH Joe

It is probably a great machine, but I can't see paying that much money for what I consider something that isn't even close to right... I have an SE Pro on the way, It was a deal I couldnt refuse. Its Fe #'s actually CHANGE when you scan over different coins  HH Joe
