Six Coppers- Some silver -and a cool military button

DAN03USMC

New member
Hey all, I did a combo of detecting and scouting new spots. the scouting wasn't as productive as I had hoped  I did pretty well detecting though. I got six coppers in total. A 1827 large cent, a 1747 King george II another King george II date ???? a king george II/ III ??? copper and two pretty worn half farthings (no dates). I got a 1940 merc and a SWEET 1915 barber quarter. a buff and some wheats.

Can anyone help with the ID of the military button? it is an eagle with two crossed cannon under.......I'm assuming it is from a artillery unit. Thanks for looking, Dan

US 1812 War - 3rd Regiment of Artillerists Brass Button, Oval Wheels Design, ca. 1811-13

thanks Paul, there are two crossed connon and the eagle looks like the one on the Civil War union breast plate. I was thinking it could be Civil War era.

I just found the button listed. Pre civil war... it is an ordinance. button. the one that sold was in worse shape than mine and it went for a $175.00 :surprised:

Nice finds! I love that early copper and that's a nice Barber. You hit a home run with that button though. Way to go. HH

That's quite a hunt Dan! Congratulations on some very old items for the U.S.! Thanks for the story and the pictures!

Those are some really fantastic finds Dan. Good work. Here is a different style button I found down here in Mississippi that is also 3rd regiment U.S. Artillery from the 1812 era. Wonder why the different designs?
