Hello my friends!
I got out for a couple more hunts this week. I decided to hunt a few local parks that were great on the silver/oldies a few years back. After hunting them this week, my conclusion was: "They "were" great a few years back!"
Many of the coins were partially masked by lower conductors or shallow clad, which are very easy to miss if you happen to be swinging across them from the wrong approach.
The Markel Service good driver pin is from the 30's/40's, right in the depth of all the dug wheats and silvers (7-8"). The surprise of the day was my second semi-key 1921 Merc in back to back weeks, this one being a Denver mint. It's very worn, a sign it was in circulation 20-30 years after it was minted. Funny thing about finding that Merc: I was driving down the length of the park, and was trying to figure out the best place to park my car along the curb. There were no other cars parked along the curb for the whole length (250 ft) of this park, so I decided to park next to a tree so my car would be in the shade. I walked out to the turf, turned my machine on, and in about 15 seconds, found the '21D Merc. Wouldn't you know it.....that was the only old coin I would find for the next 2 hours.
I decided to leave even though I had just found the sterling religious pendant (just not enough deep signals for me), and finish my day at another nearby park. That's where I dug the '41 Washington, the '43 Merc, and a few more wheats. Looks like it's time to venture a little further to a few more parks that have treated me well in the past. We'll see what they have to offer.
