Well! I finally did it! I found my 1st Franklin Half after having the Explorer XS since Fall 2001, and it only took a small Cache to land one. I will be posting the Cache that I found on Sunday first. The rest of the finds that I found during the weekend will be in a separate post. So here is the story behind this great find. My buddy Dale had told me about a Farm Site that was suppose to have some money buried on it, but who knows how much or how many Cache's could be there. He talked to the owner before the Farm Site was removed for development and this is how he found out about the buried money. Dale does Paintless Dent Removal and Windshield Chip Repair and was doing some work for this person and got the go ahead to detect the property when it was still there. This was back in fall of last year. Anyways, the owner was 90 at that time and had told Dale that he (Dale's not sure if he mis-understood him but he thought he was told by the owner himself, that he had buried a bag of Quarters somewhere out where the Swing Set use to be, but he wasn't positive where for sure or if it was even buried where he told Dale) buried a bag of Quarters somewhere on the property when he was about 12 years old and couldn't find them when he looked for them again. I was figuring on finding Standing Liberty and Barber Quarters but if it does exist, it is still out there waiting to be found. The Cache I found consisted of 17 Coins, all stacked on top of another. I figured that if there was going to be a large quantity of Silver in the ground, that it would drop the ID down to at least 25 on Digital. I was at the site for about an hour and a half and got a signal that read 25 at about 2" Deep. This was located in a spot that had to been scraped a bit since it was dirt and not grass. It looked like the grass was just shaved off since the dirt was the same level as the rest of the yard. I stuck the digger in and pulled back and the next thing I see is SILVER!!!!
Silver Quarters stacked onto each other in a clump of dirt got my heart rate racing and the adrenaline pumping. I snatched them up without even looking at what they were and had thoughts in my head of a lot more to come. More Coins came out of this shallow hole and I really got excited when Halves started to appear. There were Dimes, Nickels, and Pennies also surfacing. I ran the probe across the dirt in hopes of more but it went silent. Then I got up and searched around this area in hopes of scattered Coins but no luck. I then found something round in the ground that I couldn't budge with my Lesche and thought Cream Can. I then threw my gear into the Van and went to Dale's since it was only 2 blocks away to show him what I found. He opens the door and asks what I was doing there. I smiled and he then asked if I had found anything. I then said of course I did, why would I be here if I didn't. He got a bit excited and we headed out to my Van to see what I uncovered. It wasn't a lot of Coins but it was a nice Cache to find. I pulled them out of my pouch and told him they come from 1 hole. We then went back with Dale only watching since he had to stay clean due to his Wife getting off of work soon and possible plans with her. I brung Dale's Relic Shovel back with us since I forgot to bring my Ground Shark with and dug out what I thought was a Can. Turned out to be the top of a Pail. Darn!!! The Coins found were newer than expected which either tells me that this wasn't the Cache the Old Guy told Dale about which means more out there, or Dale mis-understood him and the Old Guy was talking about one of his Kids that buried the Coins. I will be back hopefully before the entire yard is torn up. The house has already been removed and a road goes by where it sat but there is a lot of yard to detect yet. I figure that the Coins were buried in 1958 due to a couple Wheats dated then with Mint Luster still showing and the Franklin Half in great shape with that Thick Reeded Edge like BU Silver Coins have when New. What was in this Cache was 1 Walking Liberty Half dated 1946-s, 1 Franklin Half dated 1957-d, 4 Silver Washington Quarters dated 1939,1942,1948-d,1953, 3 Silver Roosevelt Dimes dated 1947-d,1951-d,1952-d, 1 Buffalo Nickel dated 1930, 1 Older Jefferson Nickel dated 1940, and 6 Wheat Pennies dated 1945-s,1949-d, and (4)1958-d. WHAT A RUSH!!!!!!! I also found a few Misc. Items also. They were a Horse Shoe from a Huge Work Horse, a Cast Iron Wheel off of a Very Old Toy, a Chipped Large Marble, a Junk Ring, 2 Keys, a Button, and a Cheap Necklace with a Heart Shaped Pendant. No Picture inside though. Hope you all enjoy this great find I made and have that feeling of finding something like this from reading this post of mine. Thanks for looking and as always, Good Luck and HH.
