Smaller coil for T2 and F-75 - chat with Dave Johnson :|

I had an opportunity to chat with Dave Johnson about a smaller coil for the T2. He shared the following with me and I pass it to this forum: They are planning to produce smaller coils for both the T2 and F-75 :beers: However, there is no set date to do so, the tooling and development to do so are demanding. According to Mr. Johnson, the Double D head is a lot more difficult to produce than the elliptical head.

He further told me the F-75 electronics are designed for both Double D and elliptical coils, while the T2 electronics will only accomodate Double D coils. Therefore he expects a smaller elliptical coil to be produced for the F-75, so it will get a smaller coil sooner, just not a Double D coil. A smaller Double D coil will come out almost simultaneously for the T2 and F-75, again, he could not offer a date.

Finally, he said he is very aware that T2 owners want a good smaller coil and the company very much wants to get one on the street as soon as they can.

I hope this is useful information. :please:

DD is my favorite weapon of choice.

Thanks Mark for the post, but I find some aspects (highlighted sections) of the reported conversation, puzzling?

Do you consider your 'translation' of what was obviously a longer exchange, an accurate account of Dave's contribution?

Whatever; thanks again for sharing it with us......MattR.UK

sounds like lip service for the T-2 coil. if they wanted to get one out, they would build the DD so the T-2 and F-75 would both have a small coil available, how long has the T-2 been out??????

I think we will see a small coil for the T2 this year. And I think a lot of the other compaines are startng to see that the T2 and F75 are the start of where machines should be headed. But I think that someone will have to put a new twist on a new detector to get into the game something the T2 and F75 are lacking like seperating trash from gold targets.

MattR, The conversation was casual and not rushed, Dave was very willing to talk, so yes, I did summarize. I do feel my "translation" was/is accurate. When I asked about the smaller coil, he said the company is working on a 6" head. He then spoke at some length on the technical differences between the electronics in the T2 and F-75. That is when he explained there are engineering and tooling (setting up the equipment and computers to fabricate the coils) challenges with DD coils, and elliptical coils are just easier to make from an engineering perspective. When I asked him when he expected the smaller coil to come out he responded with his explanation that the first smaller coil will be an elliptical one for the F-75, followed some months later by DD coils for both the T2 and F-75. He also explained that while the DD coils for the T2 and F-75 are not interchangeable between these fine machines, the manufacturing involved is sufficiently similar that both smaller DD coils will be released fairly close together, within weeks.

I tried to pin Dave to release dates. His only response was to recognize there is a high demand for a smaller coil among T2 users and he hoped to have one out by the end of the year.

That is about it. Like everyone else I would love to see a smaller coil come out, but I appreciated Dave's candor in our chat. :twodetecting:

That was a great post, & a good summary for those awaiting the smaller coils. But some of us were confused, so I have confirmed with Dave that the upcoming smaller searchcoils you got "concentric" confused with "elliptical"....
