"Solid-Bottom" coil covers

Ray Hogan

Member
Does anyone know of a "solid-bottom" coil cover, maybe from another detector company, that will fit the Pro coil or the Sun Ray X-8? Thanks, Ray Hogan in Waco, TX.

The Tesoro coil cover i beleave is what fits the Pro coil

I read somewhere believe it or not that a frisbee would fit great on the pro coil. Might be a little difference in brands though, nothing a little duct tape won't fix, lol.

Drive around the block until you see some illegal sign on a telephone pole advertising weight loss, buying houses, or other junk. Most cities have a law against putting these signs on poles anyway so you are doing them a favor taking them down if that's true. Many of these signs are made out of what is called coruplast (spelling might be wrong but that's what it sounds like). It looks like cardboard in that it has ribs and a hollow air gap between the two sides but this stuff is a plastic material and is VERY strong. You can't even rip it with your hands. It's slick and should slide well over the ground. Cut it to the shape of your coil and then zip tie it on for the day when you need a solid coil such as for things like hunting in the woods or something. I haven't tried it yet but it should work fine for my wood hunts with various coils on my GT. When done for the day just cut off the zip ties and remove it. I would go ahead and take off the stock cover cover when using it to save as much weight as possible. Not needed anyway since this stuff will probably do an even better job at protecting the coil. Let me know if anybody tries this. I think I might go "sign" hunting right now as a matter of fact.

If you can't find any illegal signs around then try the dumpsters behind gas stations. Some times their signs are made of this stuff or even those big Pepsi or other pop square box displays that go around their product. If you still are striking out look for a local banner supply wholesale store (the ones who supply to the retail sign stores) and you can buy a 4x8' sheet of this stuff for like $12. I bought a few sheets years ago to make goose decoys (sihlouettes) for hunting. Saved me big bucks over buying commercial ones and they sure are lighter than the ones my buddy made out of wood when walking through muddy fields to set up a goose hunt. The stuff is also waterproof so no worries there.

I spray painted the Tesoro white coil cover with black plastic paint. Fits perfectly over the pro coil with the existing coil cover on.
Great for mud or areas with some veg growth or stubble.
