Solution for a Quick Change Coil in the field

I recently came across a post on this forum from Shane in Washington on the upper shaft modification to run his coil cable wire inside the shaft to his X-1 probe and I like it very much. Everyones concern is changing coils in the field, Here's my solution. If the wire coming out of the coil had the option to order it with a shorter wire to just reach the top of the lower shaft and SunRay offered a connecting cable from the box down to the lower shaft so you make the connection there ,like male and female connector you could change coils at the lower shaft and leave wires inside the shaft .All it would amount to is male -female connectors at the lower shaft. Maybe I need to call the cable guy for a splice job.

Getting a back-up lower shaft that you can connect to a second coil is really the fastest way to change them in the field, unless you just wanna pack the coil and conserve space. You can probably get a great deal on eBay for a lower shaft for your machine.

I was refering to skyblast's post on the coil modification for the X-1 probe. Instead of having to take the coil wire back out of the upper shaft to change coils, why not a connector at the bottom of the lower shaft that can screw into a short wire on the coil eliminating the need to buy extra lower shafts for each coil and would save the cost of all the wire used making coils by going with a short wire and leaving the long wire inside the shaft permaently once it was attached to the Probe box. Just a connector at the bottom of the lowershaft to the connector of the coil 6'' short wire. The manufacturer saves the cost of long coil wires, No need to buy a lots of lower shafts, main wire is inside of the shaft and the only thing needed is a $2 connector

I personally don't like the look of the modification because I can see the insulation eventually wearing through against the shaft as you swing the coil back and forth several thousand time per hunt.

I have a separate lower shaft for each of my coils with Velcro on them. I use the velcro to secure the coil wire to the shaft so all I have to do is unscrew the connector from my X-1.
