Some Coil Weight Comparisons

Since I can't go detecting with a broken arm, I thought I would share some coil weights with you. I used a postal scale that's accurate to within 0.2 of an ounce. All coils were weighed with their lower rods attached. As noted, some coils have covers installed.

4 to 6 ounces of added weight doesn't seem like a whole lot until you attach it to the end of a long rod and start swinging it.

Fisher Gold Bug 11 inch DD coil with cover - 19.2 oz.

Fisher Gold Bug 5 inch DD coil - 15.9 oz.

Teknetics 5 inch DD coil - 14.3 oz.

Teknetics 10 elliptical concentric coil - 16.02 oz.

Teknetics 5 x10 DD coil with cover - 18.9 oz.

Teknetics 8 inch concentric coil - 13.4 oz.

Correction on the "Fisher Gold Bug 5 inch DD coil - 15.9 oz.". The total weight includes coil cover. The coil cover weighs 1.1 oz.

Thanks for putting the time in.
A few interesting things. The 5 x 10 feels much lighter than the 11 DD , maybe less nose heavy and not hanging up in the stubble is why.
The weight of the 5 in Tek and GB coils is a surprise.

Yeah Gman...the drag/resistance co-efficient of the 11" DD is a...drag. That open face multiple spoke design catches on everything...even lawn grass.

nice info Tabby! Hope you get well soon, and find something to weigh on that scale of the golden or silvery nature.
