Some ETrac vid for you!....

Gaz

I know I love watching people's videos so here are two links for a couple we did a few weeks ago.
It was a club dig where I used my ETrac against an XP Deus. Not sure if you guys have heard of this machine yet??

Anyway......enjoy!!

. Great job, loved the videos. Interesting pattern on the Etrac??

Thanks for the video Gaz. Jerry looked like a kid that just got out of school, he really loves to detect. Appreciated hearing the tones of both machines.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Quite a few people are using my setup and are enjoying it.

Here's the reasoning if you want to give it a go:

The only black on the screen is on the FER 01 line. Even then, it's open in the CON 38-48 region on that line.
This is because I am totally convinced that large deep iron wraps around the Ferrous scale from 35 to 1. The way I am set up means that I would get high tone blips, pops and chirps
if I don't black out this line. It really calms the machine down.
The bit left open on that line allows large silver to come through which it sometimes does on that line.

That's the pattern!!!

I set up in 2 tones and Ferrous sounds. I like listening to the iron. When a good target crops up, it leaps out at you in a high tone amongst the low tones.
You just have to listen through the the low tones for the high ones.

By doing this, it speeds up the ETrac dramaticlly.

Because you aren't discriminating anything at the bottom, it doesn't need to null out and recover because it's giving you a low tone instead.

Finally, I engage Recovery DEEP ON to enhance the audio on deeper targets and also Recovery FAST ON. You couldn't really do both on the SE but you can on the ETrac due to the faster
processor. I'll tell you why I do it.

Some people, especially in the UK say that they dig good targets that have high Ferrous numbers. I'm not totally convinced about this. I suspect that they 'think' a target has a high ferrous number
but really it's a Ferrous 12 target next to something else which is dragging the ferrous number down due to target 'blending'.
The amount of times I've heard someone say that a target was FE 27 in the ground and FE 12 when out!!
I suspect that when out, there was something highly ferrous left in there!!

FAST ON will reduce target blending so when this happens, you'll get a distinct high tone next to a low tone. Enough to investigate further.

I've dug good ferrous 12 targets to 14-16 inches in depth. In my mind, if a target is FE 12, it's FE 12 and that's it.

Dig all two way high tones, good or iffy, as long as they are two way.

Good luck!!

Great videos Gaz! I am going to give your set-up a try on some of my Older/Iron drenched sites.Ive tried the 2 tones before,But I havent tried Ferrous sounds two tones .Thx for taking the time to post..HH

That sounds intresting Gaz, thanks for the explanation on the pattern. I will have to try it some time. HH Joe

I hunt in Fer two tone and black out 28 down. This way even if I get a low tone below 17Fer (which is the breaking point in two tone) I know it could be a good target if it's repeatable in a few directions . I also black out two lines along the top so I don't get iron trying to sneaking in as a high tone ( leaving the right side open for silver). In Con. I was getting to many high tones that ended up being iron...Just a big pain in the backside. With my hearing most high tones sounded the same ( not like the ex's that really let you know you had silver or a large cent etc.) .If your hearing isn't as good as it used to be and you hate Con mode, give it a try.

last couple of hunts and love it! I like hunting in Ferrous 2 Tone and combined with your pattern things really pop! Mike

.....brilliant Mike!!!

I'm really pleased to be of help and glad you liked the settings.

All the best mate.

I have an experiment on the go at the moment with 5 other ETrac users to find out how many targets come in the region of FER 18 - 29.

With all of us on the case and logging FE numbers and targets, we'll get to the bottom of it.

We are basically staying in 2 tone Ferrous but blacking out Fer 30-35.
A low tone will now tell us to log the number and target to find out what's going on.

Hi Dennis.

As with the earlier post on this thread, I have some different ideas than other people.
I must emphasise, this is my take on things!!!

In answer to your question......we had a go. Adding the additional black to the bottom of screen strangely made the ETrac more erratic, poppy and chirpy.
It was so un-usable we went back to removing it and listening to the iron for the reasons stated above.

I also think that when people say they dig targets with high ferrous numbers, they are mistaken. I think they are finding ferrous 12 targets next to ferrous objects which is dragging the their ferrous number down.

Great videos!
